Did it stop all of the sudden? Try checking ground wires and the fuses. Did you change anything in the truck that might have effected the wires going to the back of the truck? Look for bad bulbs too. Try the basics, if that doesn't work give as much info on what you did so people don't where to go next. Good luck.

Do your turn signals work?

I have changed the light bulbs. And put a new cable from the fire wall to the end of the truck. I have power to the rear and one element will burn on both sides but when i turn my head lights on they go off

Re: 67 c10 rear brake lights not working

First you need to fix the ground path to the taillights (the cans are grounded to the bed and the bed should have ground straps to the frame, frame to cab, cab to engine engine to battery) check all those points for clean metal to metal contact. The fact that turning on the headlights causes the lights to go out verifies this as they are providing an alternate ground path.

Re: 67 c10 rear brake lights not working

I just worked through this problem. What I did was soldered a ground to the tail-light housing (metal) and ground that to the frame. My tail lights and break lights are bright now.

Re: 67 c10 rear brake lights not working

i know its an old thread but.

i checked the housing on mine. its a ground (test light wire on positive then touched the housing and it lit my test light) but when i turn on the lights it the housing turns to hot ( i put my test light on battery negative and touched the housing and it lit my test light)

what does that mean ( i checked my whole truck bed and its hot once the lights are on)

The frame is still a ground though

What it means is that you are confusing yourself with the fact that the test light is not polarity sensitivity. It merely shows that there is a continuity between the test points. The frame does not become hot.

What particular problem are you having? You have a ground on the sockets but do you have power on the Yellow and dark green wires and if you do is it only when the turn signals are on.

The tail lights are powered by the brown wire when you turn on the headlight switch Do they work? If so it proves that the sockets are grounded to the frame. If they are bright (not brake light bright) then your ground path is good.

Re: 67 c10 rear brake lights not working

You have a weak ground from the frame to the bed. You can clean the bolts connecting to the bed to the frame and/or run new 12ga wires to the bed and the housings from the frame. While you are at it's not a bad idea to check your ground coming from the battery to the engine and frame. Clean the connections and replace any wires that look like they have been damaged by heat.
