Got tired of driving the big stock steering wheel, so this was my 1st try at making one smaller. It already had one with cracks in it so nothing to loose but time!

I like that, but I'm a lazy bastid- I've seen repro '60 Impala steering wheels in a smaller diameter. I still miss my '60 Impala convertible. Dammit.

I made a mold of the good grain on the wheel. I used filler and before it hardened up I pressed the mold into it and worked my way around the rim.

Great job. There are a couple items that I can't believe haven't been repro'd: Smaller diameter stock style steering wheels, and original steelie wheels. Really weird, considering how much attention we all pay to these two seemingly simple things.

Yes, I did clear coat over the black. It feels sooo much better to drive than with the stock wheel! but I wanted to keep the stock look. It is like driving a different truck and I feel like I have more control over the steering.

You did a superb job on the steering wheel. Yes I think a 16 inch stock wheel would be perfect on a power steering truck. I would think GM did not want to have one steering wheel for power steering trucks and one for non power steering trucks so they defaulted to the 19 inch one for all trucks.
