Intro and my 58 apache

First off I'd like to say hello to everybody on here, my name is charlie and i am stationed out here in the hampton roads for the Navy. I've been out here for five years now. Anyways, i came across this beauty about two weeks ago, I've been searching for one for a while now. My grandfather in Honduras used to drive him and i to his farm in it.

It is a 58 Chevy apache like the name says, short stepside. It has a 75 z28 camaro front end matched up to it and the rear axle out of it as well. The gentleman i bought the truck from took his time to powdercoat the frame and fix the body to get it primered.

Now as i am new to rebuilding a vehicle i am waiting for the repair assembly manual before i start putting body parts back on, as i want to see what bolts and what not i need. But past the bolts it is all there. I have an lq4 block that i will be dropping into her. I just need to build that too haha.

Side note if any of you know where i can find doors that would be great. The originals were stolen and after looking around online the bnib ones are 1300.... yikes

Re: Intro and my 58 apache

Welcome to my northern neighbor!

Looks like you got a pretty solid start!

Keep an eye on craigslist for doors. Every now and then I've seen Apache parts pop up somewhere in VA.

Worst case I got a guy down here with 10-20 parts trucks. I'm about 30 miles east of Raleigh, NC

Re: Intro and my 58 apache

Thanks guys.

Aftermath. That's ironic, i just got the truck from Aberdeen.

I've been looking for someone willing to part with doors... no luck so far.

Side note it has a corvette brake system with front discs

Ohh nice. That's a couple hours from me..

The guy I know will sell anything. Hard part would be finding doors without the bottoms completely gone.

Re: Intro and my 58 apache

I've seen that i can buy metal already formed to replace the bottom, so long as the rest of the door is good and salvageable thats all i need. I have a buddy that can weld anything and has a blaster setup to clean up metal

Welcome to the forum. That's a good looking start of a project you have there. Good luck with your build. Go Navy! I am also active duty Navy, stationed on the Gulf Coast.

Re: Intro and my 58 apache

Welcome, and nice find. If you need new body parts, look up Top Banana. They are in VA, somewhere on the west side of the state. It's a couple hour drive from Hampton Roads, but you could save boatload of money on shipping if you want something big like doors. That's the route I'm gonna go whenever I decide to actually do bodywork on my '57.

Re: Intro and my 58 apache

Thanks oneoff i will keep that in mind, thankfully, pickupman on here has some doors for me on the way to arrive this next week.

My repair assembly manual comes in tomorrow. Once it gets here i am booking it to a specialty store that i can match up bolts with close to originals and hopefully start putting this beauty together

Re: Intro and my 58 apache

I am an LS1 stationed with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 27. This is my last shore assignment before I retire next year. I hope to be able to get back to my build soon. In the meantime, I am checking out all of the work everyone else has been doing on theirs.
