Lowering a 68 with an 81 front suspension

I have a 68 longbox 2wd that I am going to cut down to a shortbox. It is currently a 6 lug truck, I have an 81' 2wd that I am using for the suspension. I am just going to swap axle shafts for the rear axle? I will just unbolt the whole front suspension cradle and swap it over to the 68.

I am planning on a 4/5 drop and was wondering if the drop is still the same since I will be using the newer front suspension? I am wanting to go with an 18/20" corvette rally wheel or just a staggered set of 18" wheels on it.

Re: Lowering a 68 with an 81 front suspension

Your front suspension will swap over without issues , maybe a couple of holes to drill. So you would just get lowering parts for your 81 front suspension. If the 68 has the original rearend then the 81 axles will be too long to swap in though.

Moser makes 5 lug conversion axles for the 1970 and earlier rear end housing that are the correct length. I used them in my 1969 C10 build to convert everything over to 5 lug. About $250 bucks for the pair.
