Experimental Trucks

I think this could make for an interesting thread, experimental trucks. The military did a lot, but there are all sorts of experimental trucks in history. So here we go

Look at this old alcohol for fuel article using a Chevy Stepside

The Russians sure were focused on finding a better all terrain vehicle

Any truck I work on would be considered experimental after I quit turning wrenches on it =)

I saw a video where a guy built one out of a riding lawn mower. At first glance, you wonder what the heck it does. Then he cranks it up and drives it around. I didn’t know such a thing existed.

Re: Experimental Trucks

Special k. Your 3rd pic was a military transport for Alaska used before the ice roads.

Post 5 appears to be the turbine motor experiment for semis. Basing this on the huge intakes
at the front. There was alot of experimenting back in the day. They also used propane and natural gas setups during the crossover from gas to diesel.

Side note. I went to a museum and saw the experimental turbine motor mustang from the 60s. That was a crazy one.

More exp trucks. I'm just posting in order from my folder so I don't get mixed up.

How about this troop carrier Jeep?

Re: Experimental Trucks

This one is interesting. I found it while looking for a tractor/trailer rig that had the cab under the trailer, setting about as high as most cars. The pic of the semi version is down the page in this article.

Nope, uh uh. You ain't getting' me settin' all up and under that thing all out front there. No sir! I think that concept failed because they couldn't get any test drivers willing to drive it.

That thing was sort of experimental. There was another built using a '59 Impala built similarly.

Ok, I get that. I tell ya, that door has me scratchin' my head. The caption where I found it said 'Experimental Hummer. Looks more like an exotic custom-built toy to me. I like that last one. Looks like it could drive into the lake and pump it dry. The center one looks awful capable for it's time.

Last one is Russian

Don't forget this one!

The Deora was designed by Harry Bentley Bradley, the same man who designed the '67 C10.
