Mini bike engines.

Well my safety nut son finally wants a mini bike so I ordered him one that we can assemble together.

It is the Azusa brand version, and I will probably stretch it for fun. Plus decorate with some gussets. That way he can have something custom which he likes.

How big of a motor is nessacary to bomb around in?

Would a harbor freight 3hp be cool or do I need a 6hp version? I am willing to gear it so it a smaller engine could work.

I plan to ride it too, and I weigh 195 right now.

Re: Mini bike engines.

I put the 3hp harbor freight on my son's micro mini and it's enough to haul me around at 300lb. The 5hp would good for a kid too, and parts are everywhere for both.

Re: Mini bike engines.

I run the 6 hp with Mikuni Carb. Makes them run much better along with Torque converter for smoother and positive take off

There’s also electric bikes out there. I have 2 little one for Grandsons 3 and 4 years old

My mini bike is a good bit larger. So 6hp should work better.

Re: Mini bike engines.

Also did this one for my Granddaughter. Started out with 2 cycle motor but clutch was bad so I converted to electric. Batteries are hidden under fake tank. 24 volt 250 amp

Re: Mini bike engines.

I saw videos where people did electric conversions, but they were pricey for something that could move me.

I have a 8hp Kohler flat head I want to use, but the ex wife would probably kill me.

To convert this one to electric was ~$180 and will pull me (220) at 18 mph per GPS app. Could have went with 1000 amp for around $250 but she’s only 2 LOL
Baja motor sports.com. Check it out

What got me into electric was driving a Tesla with a 0-60 time of 4 seconds. I was very impressed

Re: Mini bike engines.

Do you guys have trouble with people riding dirtbikes, minibikes, 4 wheelers, etc, illegally on the city streets?
It has become a big thing here in the last year or so. Some are "kids", but many of them are full adults. They usually run in groups of at least 5-6 in my area, but downtown there might be a few dozen at a time.
No helmets, no glasses, no concern for traffic or traffic rules.
Now there have been people "playing for a few minutes" in the alley for years. It's usually just someone testing/tuning, alone and not really bothering anyone. Since C-19 things seem to have escalated?

Re: Mini bike engines.

I live in a court so I’ll test and tune there. Grandkids wear helmets and only ride in the court when I’m with them and they Don’t leave the court. Otherwise we’re off to the trails
As for groups, there’s been some but cops shut them down quick. Don’t see them at all anymore

Re: Mini bike engines.

Yeah, that's what I was meaning, in an isolated space here no one but the locals really needs to be anyway.
My side of the street is old enough to have alleys behind the houses and there is a T intersection just off of the corner of my yard. Over the years lots of people have messed with go-karts or minibikes, but nothing like what is going on out on the main road.
We got fresh "tar and chips" last week. It has been several years since that happened.
