73 and up exhaust

Does any of you square body folks know if 73 and up tail pipes will fit a 72 leaf spring truck? Saw it mentioned on another tread here but there was no response. Even the exhaust sellers don't know (never been checked). All the 67 to 72 exhaust systems retailers state coil spring only. I have seen them in 2.25" but I need them in 2.5". I know as I've been told on the 67 - 72 forum just take it to a shop, would rather not.

Re: 73 and up exhaust

Why do you need them in 2 1/2?

Re: 73 and up exhaust

I have a healthy 383 in the truck and the whole rest of the exhaust is 2.50. I knew I would get this question!

Re: 73 and up exhaust

Is that a mandrel bent exhaust system?

Yes. With headers and Magnaflow mufflers.

So you’re looking to gain back some of the hp you might have lost in your choice of transmission.
What trans have you got?
Get a pipe kit and make your own.

Re: 73 and up exhaust

No...I installed new Mufflers this summer and the tailpipes are too corroded to stay tight to the new mufflers. Transmission? never mentioned one. The 383 is a Chevy performance stroker motor'

Re: 73 and up exhaust

My local NAPA sells universal tail pipes for trucks that look to be mandrel bent and in 2 1/2". I plan to buy some very soon so I hope they still stock them. Most truck tailpipes all look the same anyway.

Re: 73 and up exhaust

It would probably be real close if not perfect since you're leaf spring.
