Rain hopefully
Being Washington State born and raised I have zero problem with rain and overcast days, its what gives us the amazing area we live in. Rainy days and Mondays don't get me down =)
That being said I was hoping for a little less rain this summer since its the first entire summer since back when I was in school (45 year reunion this year) I had it entirely off (retired end of May). Ok I surrender, please no more rainless days! I have no idea how much rain we've had this summer, meaning June through today, but my guess is less than an inch. We've turned in to California lately with all the fires, some pretty close to home. No danger of getting tossed out of our home (thank God), but so much smoke and ash the days can be miserable! Looking forward to, fingers crossed, at least a whole week they are calling for rain starting Friday. Now there have been plenty of times this summer they said rain was coming only to have it dashed by nice days, so weird to have to type that lol. Checking my weather app again =)

Re: Rain hopefully
I spent 1 1/2 years at Fort Lewis WA from 1978-1979. Seemed at the time the only kind of weather we had was "rain and going to rain".

Re: Rain hopefully
The coastal northwest IS NOT meant to be dry. It's not a good thing when it isn't. I hope you get your wish

Re: Rain hopefully
We got a few thundershowers one day last week. That was the 1st rain in over a month. Walking on this dead grass sounds like stepping on tater chips.
On a positive note: I'm done mowing for the year...

Re: Rain hopefully
We've got a burn ban in effect which is rare for us.

Re: Rain hopefully
Smoke was so bad yesterday I stayed in the house except to run to the grocery store.
Replaced the filter on the furnace last weekend. Probably replace it again once the fires are out.

Re: Rain hopefully
We getting your smoke here in the Okanagan, hurry up and put it out, lol . Should have rain by next week so they say. Forest fires in the end of Oct. is unheard of usually . We re still getting some spot fires.

Re: Rain hopefully
Funny how things work… we’ve had the wettest summer I can ever remember here. Still getting rain at least once a week which is normally more like once every 2 months. I’ve got wild mushrooms growing in the yard. Never seen that since I moved to NM. Hope all the dry areas get what they need soon.

Re: Rain hopefully
^^^ That's what my sister near Santa Fe says. There is Purslane cropping up all over the desert (among many other things).

Re: Rain hopefully
Its pretty dry when trees are waving at dogs and mushrooms are flipping their lids to capture any little drop of water.

Re: Rain hopefully
I just noticed tonight that my Tallest Pine tree that I planted
The needles at the top are turning to a straw color. This tree has been Green/Green through it all over the years. Its 30 years old and over 50 feet tall.

Re: Rain hopefully
I too live in WA State.
Driest fall I can remember. A few year ago we had an all time record rainfall for the month of October. 10 inches in 31 days. So far this month, zero rain. But I had a bumper tomato crop. Supposed to start raining mid morning tomorrow and the forecast indicates rain every day for the next 10 days. Bad news is all the fires, in my area, were man made. Twenty years, in jail, for such an offense would be just fine with me. Last edited by Accelo; 10-22-2022 at 10:51 PM. |

Re: Rain hopefully
Yesterday was a beautiful day, it rained! Less than an inch of rain from early June to yesterday, and forest fires that gave us the worst air quality on the planet (reported in the news) for a bit.
I went to the waste transfer station to toss our old washer and dryer in the recycle and asked the ladies in the booth why the weird schedule lately? It had been closing at odd hours. She said the smoke was so bad it was making them sick in their little booth so they stayed as long as they could stand it and closed up when they couldn't. I left there and on the way home I have a short section of road that's pretty steep and sweeps to the left at the top. I swept to the left and my truck wanted to come around on me. Months of excessive heat and no rain, add a nice rainy day and very slippery road conditions happen ... wheee! Haha!

Re: Rain hopefully
Yeah, I guess you coastal Washingtonians don't normally experience the oil build up through dry spells gone greasy once it rains. We go through that cycle often here, but most people don't consider it and we get a lot of accidents.

Re: Rain hopefully
Here monsoon is suppose to be over. The rain will not go away. I am awaiting the 100+ days of no rain. A buddy came over the other day and said "Am I in Washington State or what". We are way over the normal rain count for our area and still counting.
