73-87 chevy stepside lowered pics
I have recently gotten a 84 chevy stepside 2wd and want to lower it i was thinking about flopping the axle over the spring in the rear and cutting the front springs, I would like some pics and if you could tell me how, and how much of a drop you did thatd be greatly appreciated thanks,

Re: 73-87 chevy stepside lowered pics
i flipped the rear and cut 1 1/2 coils off. at stock hight the gap from the front wheel well to tire was about 4" and the rear about 7". after the flip and cutting 1 1/2 coils the front is not about a 1/2" gap and the rear tucks about 1/2". the hardest part was freeing up the rusted bolts. as far as ride quality goes, its not bad. the raer has 5 leafs and the overload so its fairly stiff and the front as a little softer then the rear.

Re: 73-87 chevy stepside lowered pics
Cut coils in the front; relocated spring hangers and removed springs in the rear.
Probably 4" drop in front; approx 5 or 6" in rear. K

Are you not wanting to notch the frame nate? Youll want to get drop shocks if you flip your axle, givin you have the extra coin.

Re: 73-87 chevy stepside lowered pics
Flipped in the back with a djm kit, 2.5" spindles and 2" springs up front. If i had to do it again, i would only have used 1" drop springs up front because I don't like slowing down for speed bumps and with my current balloon tires I bang my inner fenders on occaision...I also don't like the rake...i'd prefer it level
Chisel off those gnarly bumpstops in the back, put one of those little mushroom tips on, and you've got 3 inch + clearance..you won't bottom unless you are way overloaded. I had to use the shortest shocks summit racing has up front, and my kit had drop brackets for the rear so it uses the stock shocks. |

Re: 73-87 chevy stepside lowered pics
This is my 87 Stepside. Not sure of much of its history as I shipped it over from California. It does sit a little lower than others I have seen here. I plan on going lower. Great thread!!
