WTB: front crossmember

If anyone has an already modded front crossmember to lay rocker or frame for a 70' 2wd C10 forsale let me know. I can use my stocker for a core if needed.

I can build you one if you are interested. It would take about 4 weeks from the time I get it.

What would be left to on my part after you mod the crossmember?
Do you think i might need to notch the frame for the steering?

I've got the ECE 4/6 drop with their disc conversion on the truck if it matters.

You might want to check this thread, it has everything listed that is required.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=137398

You will need to modify the steering linkage, (borgensen joints) and notch a few places for clearance on the crossmember. (see above) As for notching the frame for clearance, not unless you go more than 1.5".

He did ask a little more than just about the x-member.

contact Jeff at KRZ customs... he will section it for you for 100 bucks. Atleast 2-3 years ago thats what he was going to do it for me for. And yes, you have to raise your steering linkage up as much as you section your cross member to keep the right geometry. Then notch your frame accordingly.

I don't know anything about KRZ Customs, but for the amount of work Captkaos did for mine, KRZ'd probably be making minimum wage

After all the dust settled, my front notch cost me < $2k. That's rounding up an xmember, Captkaos mod, shipping both ways, new bags and plates, new ART control arms, Borgeson parts, and some labor. Subtracting the ART control arms would put everything < $1k.

He is probably just cutting the frame sections out using Bill Turners Templates if he is just going to charge $100 (and that is still cheap). But if you do it this way, you are going to have to get someone to chop the engine stands down and verify the clearance for the oilpan/harmonic balancer.

For the amount of work I have to do to eliminate all of these problems where you just have to have a crossmember and everything that was there before (minus steering section) to bolt up, I actually could charge more.

It sounds easy when you say it, but there is a little more to it than that. Here is how my process basically goes: http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/chopcross.html

I wouldn't cut one for just $100, the core cost me almost that much.

I'm one of those idiots who likes the job to be complete and correct. See, buying a gas hatchet doesn't make you a suspension expert. But thanks for the comment nonetheless.

nope, you bring him your crossmember, he sections it just like all you guys are reffering to here. Take a 1.5" section out of the whole crossmember, weld it back together and make it look nice all for $100. And no he is not using anyone elses stuff. He makes everything in house and does his own machining. Check out his website, asyou will see, he does very nice work. I guess I should just keep my sauggestions to myself

Hell, that seems cheap to me. I did my own and I know if I did it again I would charge a hell a lot more than $100. Sounds to me like it would be a halfass job for $100. Just fyi, plus captkaos has a good rep on this forum and can be trusted.

$100 is cheap, if you can get it done for that, well....
BTW, I charge $385 for this plus shipping and core charges for comparison. This is about the same Turners charged for his setup, but you WILL get it, as turnaround is 4 weeks depending on who supplies the core.

Thanks for the Props XXL and DM310.

It may cost me, but i want it done right the first time as it'll have to hold up to constant use. Probly as a daily driver, something to haul my Busa to the track and parts hauler for my motorcycle business.

I've seen WAY to many hacked up air suspensions in the past at shows. Some setups make you wonder how they were even being driven without falling apart. For the guys that take the time to do stuff right, my hats off to ya.

Use a fat man fab front end, comes with rack, complete suspension and bags. Lays frame, tucks the wheels in, gives major clearance and saves about 100 lbs up front.
A buddy of mine started with the cut cross member and all the other stuff, then sold that and did the fat man swap. easy, steers and drives great and bolts in
just my one penny's worth plus cleaned up the look of the front end with the polished a arm's

I'm going to get flaq for this but why dont you consider "z"ing the frame. All the steering stays the same and if ur not going to run a big wheel u won't need to z it that much. That's just something else to throw at ya
