Re: how can i get the cab lower?

JR,

IMO......It would be easier/cheaper to go drop spindles and have those rear bags re-located over doing a body drop.

You already have a couple nice trucks, Why all the rush on this one ?

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

if it is zd and lay'n frame spindals wont do anything. a traditional body drop is were you cut the floor board and let the body down lower then weld it back up. but then you gotta do the core sapport, usually by lowering the frame horns down just like you did with the z. then do the same to the bed

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

i have already moved the body mounts, i think ill just cut all the fenders and rockers and move them down and fill them in with metal, it will be easier then cutting the whole cab floor up

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

Section the frame under the cab. If you are laying frame, the frame section under the cab should be lowest part of the frame now. Cut about 1.5 to 2 inches from the bottom of the frame, brace and box everything up just like you did when you did your 4in z. That would eliminate the need to do a body drop. Now your pinch weld will be the lowest part of the truck.

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

ok i think i kno what ill do, i think ill cut the cab floor on the outside of the frame so i wont have to deal with the body mounts, keep the floor where it is, but cut the rockers out and the firewall and the back wall and section it, heres a pic that might help what im trying to say

just cut on the dotted line

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

Well that covers the cab, but don't forget you will have to do the same thing to the core support and bed.
I don't know why you aren't just modifing the frame. It's way less work, and just gets rid of all the head aches of a body drop.

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

no, my truck only has a 1.5" raised front cross member.

The concept is you hack off the amonut of frame that is keeping your cab from touching the ground. Usually aronnd 1" off the bottom, then box the remainder. The you won't have to make any mods to the cab, box, or core support. And get those pucks back between the cab and the frame otherwise you are going to have problems lining everything up just like you would with a traditional bodydrop.

look here:

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

ya i would remove the bottom portion of the frame thats preventing you from laying body, as stated above. see link above, page 7 and 8 shows you what to do.

Re: how can i get the cab lower?

ok i see how its done now, but dv8 only did a 1.5 inch z where i did 4 inch, i dont need to take that much of the frame off, so im wondering if all that work is worth the 1 inch that i need to lay pinch weld, and 1.5 to lay rockers

My Z is 2" but that doesn't really matter because it has no effect on how much you need to cut off the bottom of the frame. The Z did not change how far the frame hangs below your rockers. You will need to cut 2" off the frame to lay rocker.
