Cool 68 Four door build

Well Im starting a four door build some what simular to Drews. I will try to show the progress as I go along with the build.

My build starts off with a 1968 sub. that is a factory 1 ton 4x4 one owner Arizona truck with a 6 cylinder 4 speed.

Truck # 2 is a 2011 silverado extended cab which i will use the fire wall , some of the floor and all of the drive train which only has 5k miles on it. The motor is a 5.3 and the trans is a 6 speed auto which should be very reliable.

Truck #3 is a 71 GMC 3/4 ton withe a very clean cab and doors in which I will use the back half of.

All of the parts I dont use will be for sale to who ever needs them.

I am open to any suggestions on this project.

Re: 68 Four door build

This is one of my projects I built, it was a original 2wd blazer that was burnt to the ground and sat in a back yard for years until i got it and put a late model motor and trans in it and a complete resto. This is a great little blazer.

Can't wait to watch this come together.

Where did you locate the 2011 donor?

Nice project. Only 257,500 more views and you can tie Drew (but his is still a moving target).

Re: 68 Four door build

The Silverado was on craiges list for two thousand dollars, what a score that was. The suburban is coming out of Arizona tomorow when I go and pick it up, 7 hour drive one way. I think the suburban was used as a camping vehicle.

Re: "Mad Max" 68 Four door build

Well my daughter and I went for the 6 to 7 hour drive to pick up the suburban from Benson Arizona and it turned into a 10 hour drive one way. When we got there the paper work was in a bag that said mad max so I will call it that for now. The suburban is so clean I hate to cut it up but we all must make sacrifices. The burb is a factory 6 cylinder 4 speed 4x4 with the cleanest no rust body I have seen in a long time and it only has 69k miles on it. As I'm typing this we are waiting for a pizza here in Gila bend Arizona and still have hours and hours of driving to go tonight. I will post more pictures when we get home with this jewel.

Re: 68 Four door build

Awesome project. Sounds like I want to do but not sure if I'll ever have the time/cash to pull it off....

Glad you're going to do the 4th door....will be a lot of work but WELL WORTH IT!!! Will put this build over the top on the cool factor!!!

Which front end are you going with? Short or long bed and stock height, lifted, or lowered?

I'm still not sure what I'm doing with the stock 2011 front end. I might just leave it alone for now , it has struts and rack and pinion steering.short bed.

Re: 68 Four door build "mad max"

Well we finally made it home with the Burban. What a long drive that was, by the time we loaded it up it was huge on my trailer and we couldnt take advantage of that 75 mile an hour speed limit in Arizona (more like 50-60 tops) but it was with out any problems the whole way back.I will post more pictures tomorow after I get some sleep tonight.

Not to be a know it all, but judging by the photos, I have to wonder if your 50-60 mph tow speed might have been due to the Burb being too far back on the trailer, causing sway (?) IMO, if it was a little farther forward on the trailer, I think it would have given you more tongue weight. It looks as if you had enough truck to handel the load , 2500HD (?)

Great build, BTW!
