Questions about my gauges
My gauges on my 72 k2500 one of them is always pegged out even with the teuck off. The other ( my oil pressure gauge) sits on H every time I drive my truck. Is that where it is suppose to be? Everything is running good so I dont think there are any problems, just didnt know if I needed to fix this and how. Also, next to my oul pressure gauge there is a blank gauge, what is suppose to go there? Anything? Does it have a purpose? What should I put there. Thank you for the help.

Hi there, to answer the easy question first: what goes in the blank space? That slot is left open for trucks to be optioned with either a vacuum or air gauge. Some members install clocks in that location.

Yes, oil pressure gauge on high is normal with the engine running and driving. Sometimes at low idle mine will go down to about 2/3.
The temperature gauge is normally on cold when the truck is cold, and moves to about 1/4 when the engine is at normal operating temperature, and moves to the thick banded hot area when the engine is overheating, at which point you should shut off the engine immediately. If you temp gauge stays on high even with the battery disconnected, then you probably have a bad gauge. If it is on cold with no power then goes to high when you turn on the key or lights that may mean you have the wrong sender in your engine or a short to ground in the wire that leads to the engine. A short to ground can be caused by the sender wire touching the exhaust manifold and melting of the insulation on the wire. |

My son's gas gauge was doing much the same as what you are experiencing. It turned out to be a ground issue on the dash itself. When the dash was screwed into place, it seems to have grounded itself and all appears to be well. Just my .02, check grounds.

I just cut off that scratch ground clip and added a longer wire with a ring terminal that I screwed to a good firewall connection.
