TH400 howl
Anyone ever have a TH400 with a howl between, say, 20-30 mph? Only when torque is applied, not coasting. This is with a 4.57 rear, btw. Any thoughts? Bearing?

Re: TH400 howl
It seems to be the trans. The rear end seems quiet. Replaced carrier bearing in the drive shaft as well.

The torque converter? Check for what, specifically?

Re: TH400 howl
When they go bad they growl/howl. You should hear it with the rear on jack stands. Have someone help you! Don't climb under with the truck in gear.

Re: TH400 howl
I would think if its the TC, the noise most likely would be heard all the time....the noise is being heard at a specified road speed range. Correct ? Maybe a torrington bearing in the T400 is coming apart....just a thought. (planetary area) Drop the pan on the trans, maybe piece of the bearing in the pan along with a bit of metal... Good Luck.
