Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

It appears it started somwhere around the starter area,it does not look burnt around the fuel pump area,it started low and worked its way lower forward and up the back of the engine

Bummer for sure. Glad to see you got it out like you did. Reminds us all on how important Fire Extinguishers are. I have one in every vehicle including my everyday cars.

Keep us posted on your progress on it.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Here's the carnage. All the wires/hoses and a couple air brake lines are shot. The distributor is melted beyond me messing with. The carb doesn't appear to be bothered by anything that happened. It looks like there had to have been a small gas leak somewhere in the fuel line either my glass filter or my fuel pressure gauge. The was enough gas to make its way down to the header and spray everything else. Once it hit the header that's all she wrote. Any solid evidence was burnt up.

I've been reading a lot about these tall deck distributors, is there a go to one for these engines? I love a good running carb but am debating going to fuel injection. Anyone have a recomindation on a fuel injection kit?

It will take some patience, but it doesn't look that bad. Is the Fuel Pressure Gauge original or aftermarket? As you may want to consider to eliminate it.

Fuel pressure gauge was aftermarket and so was the fuel filter under the hood. I installed them to trouble shoot my fuel delivery problem with resulted in me replacing the fuel pump. I installed the filter so I could visually see fuel flowing. They served their purpose and will be eliminated now. When I put it back together I will use swagelok fittings and ss line going from the existing fuel line to the carb.

No it really isn't that bad. It could have been so much worse. If I can get a definitive answer to a standard deck BBC distributor working on a tall deck motor I'll buy one asap. There's tons of mixed information out there. I would like to get it running again before the weather gets too cold again. It's a little disheartening to see in the shape it's in because of the amount of work I've done to it and just how well it was running just before this happened. I do have to be thankful that it went up in flames in my driveway though. 3 minutes up the road and I would have never been able to get to a fire extinguisher and back fast enough and the truck would be a complete and total loss.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Last I checked the intake was cast to let us use a std. Height dist in these engines .

And do NOT USE HOLLY SNIPER . . . Worst nightmare I had in years .

My edelbrock pro flo 4 has been SUPER since day 1 install .

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Thanks sweetk30, I'll be doing a lot of reading on that. It looks like I would have to run spacers with that intake. I'll have to find pictures of the heads I used. I don't recall if their square or oval ports.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

New distributor is in, plugs and wires are set and ready to go. I've sand blasted and painted the air filter housing again, the critical wires have been fixed temporarily so I can start it and move it if I need to. I've pulled the carb apart enough to put into a parts washer and clean it up inside and out.
Im waiting on my rebuild kit from edelbrock still. Once I get that she'll be ready to fire again.
Anyone know if there's a specific kit for a C60 with air brakes floating out there?

The ole girl lives again! Lots of work to do to get her back to how she was before the fire but I'll get there eventually.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

I figure this is due for an update. She's road worthy and street legal. 70% rewired (back ordered 30%). I went through the entire fuel system again. I found the intellitronix gauge cluster can't be trusted like I was hoping. Currently I'm just using her for short trips around town and working out any fine details and gaining trust in it.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

She's been solid with no issues. There's a couple things I'd like to change with her still. I've decided to make a shift in some life plans here soon so I've listed her for sale. Someone will get a great truck!

I do have a pretty cool badge under my name now thanks to her
