What performance street tire do you prefer?

It's about time to give Old Yeller some new rubber and my plan has been for a new set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's. But before I plunked down my hard earned bucks, I thought I'd get a little feed back from the performance crowd. BF Goodrich T/A's have always had a good reputation although the last time I researched tire opinions the Indy 500's seamed to be as popular if not more so.

My main concern is straight line acceleration and grip. I live in West Texas where cornering is nearly non-existent so lateral grip isn't much of a factor in my decision.

Obviously, drag radials would be the best from a performance standpoint but, based on cost and durability, that's not economically feasible.

Unless convinced otherwise, I'll be re-installing 255/70R15's. So, what are your thoughts on Indy 500's or something else?
