Brakes and lugs

Ok finally have my burb but I still havent gotten my pics up yet, but I will tonight.....here is my problem.

I have drums in the front and drums in the back (69 GMC 1/2 ton) 6 lug pattern.

I am just tring to figure out the cheapest way to get to 5 lugs, and the best way.
really I wouldnt care if they stayed 6 lug, but I dont think I can get any new style wheels on because of the drums, so I figure I need to get the front and rear disc conversions( $$$$$ ouch) and then it would still be 6 lug but then i could get new style wheels on.....correct??

I just dont have all the money right now to do it all, can the factory drums be machined down (the lip) would just love some input on the best way to do this. I havent looked at my drums yet either, that is just what I have been reading on here. basically wanna know how to get new style wheels on my burb, and not spend 2000 dollars on the brakes at this time.????
