MAF mounted to throttle body. Problems?

Still in the middle of my LS swap.
One thing that has come up is my air intake. Using the Sadden A/C compressor and Dirty Dingo A/C brackets, does not leave a lot of room for the air intake. I bought a Spectre intake that puts the filter right where my battery currently sits. I could relocate the battery but that would be a hassle as I already have my PCM mounted in that corner.
My current plan is to cut about 5" off the intake pipe and see if that gives me enough room to mount the filter and still close the hood without it touching the A/C compressor. If all else fails. Was thinking of just mounting a filter to the throttle body. Could I do this and mount the MAF sensor between the filter and throttle body? I heard GM likes these to be further away from the throttle body, but I may not have a choice.
