Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
I bought the V8 hood emblem off a Viking coming home from Joplin, Mo. a couple years before I found a hood. I'd love to get a Jet Age hood ornament from the GMC to put on it.

Now that I really like Skysoldier.
Thanks for posting up. (I like both Chevy and GMC, but as my wife is a 50% partner in this it will probably end up being a Chevy)

BUT.... PLEASE do post up any of those you feel are interesting. I am sure most of us on here see this as a resource, so sometimes it is a photo, or learning about a C70 that makes our day. Simple things like which badges go with which trucks or when you need to modify a latch pin, hinge etc. I am really thankfull for all the responses on here already. As some of you know, I have this truck on my back burner, the owner does not yet know that I am interested in the truck...... Seems he parked it up about 2 years ago as there were little niggling issues with it, and bought a modern Benz instead that he really enjoys. It is starting to seem like a good proposition, if the price is right, to follow up on this truck, as it is halfway there, 350/700R4 combo, rear on bags, front on 5 stud, but bags not refitted after conversion..... it ha been repainted and has some rust. This tends to be one of my worries about buying a truck that has been repainted, either in gloss or just primer/matt black, often it masks all sorts of horrible surprises. Note the engine bay area paint in the YouTube clip. Here is a YouTube clip of the truck, apologies for the camera and quality...... So what do you think? Bed may be original, but needs replacing, that said, I would carry a load of anything, excluding sand or grit on it. Seat has been reupholstered, which I personally like, my wife hates it, and wants a "Mexican blanket" in there. Thanks again for all the responses, and keep 'em coming from your personal collections.

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
Thanks,
I think so too, and this thread is now again got me thinking whether it is better to buy something like this truck, which is local, had a lot done, but is not perfect, or to buy a truck in the USA, either "redone" or original. I would be quite happy to have something like this Project Rhino at first sight...... But then the surprise may be more than skin deep.

I really like the truck shown on page 2, it's a real beauty and desirable with the short wide bed. Like you, I would be concerned about what is under the paint, but that could be part of negotiating a price. I'd also really want to check out that air suspension, take pictures and ask the experts on here if it looks okay or would need to be redone. Not everyone knows how to do those right and could be much more troublesome than any rust/paint issues.

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
I'm currently finishing up the restoration of my 61 using the original hood (it's been in the family since 1966). Never thought of changing it!
I applaud you guys who like the "flat" look of the 62-66 hoods...I simply prefer the "well endowed" look a lot more. No shame at all!! HAHA

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?
There's a 1960-61 chevy hood a buddy a mine has...I've been thinkin of picking it up, but I like the looks of the 66 hood on a 63-66 better. I was thinking of getting it...doing some work on it and selling it. Cool thread though! And the "ugly snout" is the best part a those trucks!
