Are you sure about that? I am certain I used cap screws on mine last step side. Take a close look at this bed it is a fellow board members. I think he used stainless cap screws:

Those will work great for holding the chrome wood spacers down. That isn't what I am having a problem with though. Underneath the wood on the sides of the box, that metal angle piece needs to be fastened to the outer bed side somehow.

Yes, you will have to drill holes through the side of the rail and the bedside.
I'm pretty sure If you look at the pics above you will see 4 equally spaced capscrews through the side. I don't think it will be too easy to weld them in without a spot welder. If you have a mig welder you could drill holes along the length of it and weld it through the holes and grind it flat like a spot weld. Good luck

Tonight I finished the tail lights up, also got the rear stake pockets finished. Now I need help pulling the box off the truck so that I can cap off the front pockets.

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10

Well, I've been doing alot of thinking about the suspension on my truck, and I would like to put air baggs in it, but havn't ever done that before. This is my first 2wd low truck. The question I have is can I just put air bags in it without doing all that frame work and changing the control arms and spindles????? Also does anyone have pics of a truck like mine with just air bags on it??

Wow! You got a genie in a bottle helping you there? I don't see a brake or roller in any pics. How are you fabbing the sheetmetal? Looks great!

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10

I have my own heating and coolin business and my sheet metal shop is on my other garage. I only have a 4' brake, so I had to cut the roll pan in half. And I don't have a roller, so I bent the curve free hand until it matched my template from the fender.

Re: Project 1970 Step side C10

I like those seats. Do you know what model GP they are out of? How did you fab the brackets? I assume you sat in there behind the wheel? How does it feel in the seats? Those look like they may work for our project, I bet we can pick some up at the pull a part pretty cheap. thanks, keep up the good work!
