Re: kp components weld in step notch

Look at this picture, the top of the notch closest to us goes up and to the right, the one farthest away goes down and to the right. I don't think I'm crazy. It shows that way in every single picture posted on the page. It's grossly obvious if you look at the shape of the notch closest to the axel.

Here, here is a pic with them outlined to make it more obvious.

Re: kp components weld in step notch

they don't go "up" or "down" ... that's the side to side (right to left) variation of the frame rails right over the rear axle ... go take a peep under your truck ... no rise, just a side to side "offset" ... the frame gets more narrow once it passes the axle centerline.

what you are seeing is more or less an optical illusion due to the perspective point from where the pic was taken (from the side looking down).

The problem with trying to create a bolt-in notch like that one, but for the 60-72 trucks, is the bend in the frames. It's one thing to press brake the metal on the side to follow the frame contour, however it'd be next to impossible to do with the all the bends that 60-72 notch would require. It's have to be a multi-piece kit press broke in several pieces, then welded together and metal finished. The problem we run into there is the time it takes to create the notch raises the cost up. Now it's a killer notch however it's going to be very expensive which in turn lowers the demand. hahahahaha

Makes sense to me. Any idea on the pricing for the combo set-up? Somewhere around (below) $2500? PICS! PICS! PICS! Am I the only one excited about this?

You can buy a badass welder, then purchase the KP step-notch kit and still have enough money left over to buy everything you need to bag your truck with that much money!

Re: kp components weld in step notch

Would be bonus if the kit included all of the bags, valves and mounts you need! That would be worth $2000-2500 for sure!! Since bags are only $75 each, it's not a stretch.

Re: kp components weld in step notch

Well if you figure that the Porterbuilt currently starts off at $1,300 and most of our rear kits are around $1,250 then you're already at 2,500. There's still going to be more parts required to complete the vehicles suspension and air managment as well. Once we get the kit developed more and into production then we can work on combo set. That way we'll have all the numbers crunched and we can put together a killer deal for the component package. Then I'll do an air managment packs for customers as well to take care of them on that portion of the suspension.

People are already paying an over priced $1,699 for the ART rear kit that doesn't even come close to laying out, and has the worlds shortest pan hard bar ever made. Compaired to our kit that has have more lift, better bags, better ride, a Watts link rather then a pan hard bar, and will lay the truck out completely, there is NO compairson.

This truck was laying sheetmetal like it was a road dot glue to the ground.

Re: kp components weld in step notch

Looks good. Couple of questions for ya:

What size is that rear tire?
Does the shock angle straighten out any at ride height?
Are the canti and watts link bolt-on? I see they are welded.
Four link pics? Where does it attach?

Thanks -Chris

The kit is designed to run 20's or 22's, and in the picture the truck was running 15's with with a medium tire size that was about the same as a 20". We used an end link for a 18" wheel package for that truck since it as running a small tire and wheel package.

Yes the shock straightens up when the truck is aired up, and the cantilever bar swings down. This image will give you a better idea of how it looks.

The kit is designed to be 100% bolt on with the exception of the step notch kit. The vehicle shown in the pictures had the cantilever system welded on simply because it was the first prototype kit. We currently offer 100% Bolt-on Watts Links Kits for the 67-72 trucks, and 73-87 trucks in 10 bolt and 12 bolt applications.

The four link bracket attaches to the outside of the frame using factory locating holes to help place the bracket before drilling the mounting holes.

The kit also has bolt-on axle brackets that are designed to work with the factory spring perches on the trailing arm trucks.

Hope that some of these images will give you a better idea of what all comes with, and is involved with the kit.

Stay tuned as we work with Nathan @ Porterbuilt over the next few weeks as we feature a build-up on our environmentally friendly project " Pavement Hugger" .. Rollin Hardcore in a 74'

Awesome. This kit looks badass! No more guesswork to lay these truck on the ground. 2 more quick questions for you:

-How's the driveshaft clearance at the center crossmember and cab?
-Why did you hold out on pics for 20 days?!

Re: kp components weld in step notch

Agreed the kitlooks awesome. I have not installed any KP or Porterbuilt products but both look like incredible products and I believe that the two combined will make for a TOP NOTCH product!! When I build another one I think I will definetley go this route. Save a hell of alot f work.

I spent two weeks building my watts link and it was worth every second of time. Although I would say if I knew I could buy one I probably would have.

Re: kp components weld in step notch

Hello,

Does this kit come with a crossmember that replaces the trailing arm mounted crossmember? The kit looks awsome! Hurry up and start mass producing! Got any pics of the whole truck layed out with this kit installed? And what size Kp notch do I need to lay a 29" tall 22 and how much for that?
Can I pre-order a kit?

hey clint how come you guys didn't just go with a cantilever system on one of your 4-link lits like the triangulated or parallel ones. Is there an advantage going with a combination kit like this versus a all in one cantiler/4-link system???

Why are you bumping it? Do you want to see more pics of these installed? I could post some (just did mine), though most of them are already posted here (starting at post 252).

I am sure Clint will chime in on this as well... but my personal opinion on why they would set it up this way is for packaging purposes. By using a link that bolts to the outside of the rear frame-rails and houses the bag and shock combo, it makes all sorts of room for exhaust routing around the axle housing. It also gives a much cleaner look... less cluttered.
