Post My third ZZ3 just blew up.................

Well, Friday my third ZZ3 crate motor blew up. It had 10,000 miles on it. I haven't taken this one apart yet, but I think it may have broken a piston. $120.00 tow bill.

My first one had defective valve springs on it which broke. It dropped a valve and cracked one of the aluminume heads. The 2nd one had the oil pump seize and I lost oil prressure.

Very very frustrating. I bought these things because I didn't want to worry about engine trouble. I baby these things too. I'd hate to see what would happen if I used them in a competition car or something.

Thanks for letting me vent. Has anyone else had problems with the "ZZ" engines? I'm very frustrated. GM gives me the typical response "you were abusing them". Yeah right.

I love my trucks and I'll never get rid of them, but it is this kind of stuff that made me start driving a Honda to work....325,000 miles and I've never touched it. Makes ya think.

Whew....I feel better now..lol

Just go buy a regular "low horsepower" crate motor. I got 300,000 out of my last "Mr Goodwrench" 350 motor

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I've got 210,000+ on a 305HO and have never had it open. I'll eventually replace it with acrate motor, but still have to pass emmissions in AZ, so it'll be the base crate motor for me.
Tell me you are under warranty, at least.

Try a ZZ4, haven't heard any bad things about those. But then again, never heard anything bad about the ZZ3 either.
