Attention Tom!!!!!!

Hey, i noticed your 383 was vortec headed, do you have the cast iron or aluminum heads, also what intake manifold do you have, is it egr equipped. Im thinking about going to vortec and was wondering how you liked it. i am also wondering i know they changed the manifold to the new style in 87 so does that mean that i already have a intake that will accept voretec heads. sorry about all the questions. Any other infowould help.

Thanks,
Cameron

Sorry yo, missed the thread some how!

I have the iron vortec heads. The aluminum vortecs arent really vortecs, they are GM's fastburn heads. Vortecs came on production pickups in iron only.

The intake is vortec spacific. They only used this bolt pattern from 96-up. no other manifold will work.
I have used both the RPM and now Im using a victor. I also have a RPM on my vortec 350.
No EGR. If you want EGR, you need a performer manifold and vortec exaust manifolds since the heads themselfs have no provisions for EGR.
I love vortec's. Absolutely wonderfull heads. Great flow, cheap to buy, and awsome octane tolerance. Sure you need a manifold, but its only $170 and a nice manifold is somthing everyone gets eventually anyways. Self alinging rockers are needed, but came stock and can be bought at a junkyard from any 87+ truck. Same thing for the center bolt valve covers.
Need more then .480" lift? Add some Lt1 valvesprings [$60] that fit without head work to the spring pockets and .050" offset locks and your good to .525" lift
