Got my MSD back today - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got my MSD distributor back today. They replaced the Mag assembly, shaft, gear, and weight plate. And get this, at absolutely no cost to me. Not even any shipping. And on top of this, the warranty had been out for about 7 months.

Can't beat that with a stick.

On another note, I had a coworker of mine braze the fitting in my tranny pan for the tranny temp gauge yesterday. Put it on last night and filled it up with fluid. Go out this evening and the damn thing was leaking.

I guess this is what I get for letting him do it. I took it back off and will take it somewhere tomorrow to get it done right this time.

where in the world did you come up with a saying like that?

I bought my Pro Billet HEI from Summit, but Summit didn't have anything to do with this. I called MSD direct and explained what it was doing. The guy I spoke with told me do send it in and they would check it. I said fine, but how much will it cost, since it's out of warranty. He said he would put it back under warranty for me so it wouldn't cost anything.

Now, if the rest of the performance companys will follow this service, wouldn't it be great for all of us.

I give them a big thumbs up. It sure was nice to see the invoice and it said net cost, $0.00.

if you only knew. I've had a ton of problems, it's that I don't tell everyone about them. I could write a book on how not to do things.

And you are right, I am old, old as dirt. I don't know about the wise part though.

On the tranny couldn't you drill the hole for the sender aond plug it with the hardware? I'm thinking that it's like a tranny pan's add on drain plug right? Or is it like the temp sender for the engine?

Seeing your as old as you are, I bet you remember when cotton was a good deal?

About the tranny plug, if you want something done right, do it yourself. That's my motto. It also works this way, if you want it really f'd up, do it yourself when you have no clue what you're doing.

This is one reason why I have MSD super hei on my 78 and MSD coil and module on my 79.

I planned to buy one of those MSD HEI distributors. Now I think I will for sure. you might want to give that guy a call and let him know, that since you were happy you told some friends and they are going to make msd their purchase. But dont tell him its not going to be for awhile.

If I go aftermarket for a new dizzy its going to be a MSD Pro Billet HEI or Daves SmallBody HEI and get a custom one made.

Mike, you also have the HEI upgrade (6al box and stuff) from MSD dont you?

Brandon,

the 6AL is a capactive discharge unit. It puts out multiple sparks to the plugs, hence the name, MSD (Multiple Spark Dischage). The company who makes them is Autotronic Controls Corporation, out of El Paso TX. This unit can fire mixtures which other ignition systems would never ignite. It was developed back around 1970 by two engineers.

Anyway, the 6AL has a built in limiter which uses RPM modules you can change to limit the rpm so you won't over rev the engine. It is way far advanced over regular ignition. Is it needed for a street engine, maybe not. But I can tell a difference in starting and running of my engine.

I didn't really need, but again, just wanted it. Yes, the box overrides the module. You take the module and in cap coil out. The kit I bought comes with a Blaster 2 external coil.

I have the MSD coil and module for sale if interested.

Is this the same module and coil as shown here?

Can I use this module with my stock distributor? I know that shape is slightly different and it has the cord coming out, so im not real sure.

Yes Eddie, it's the same ones in your pic. They came out of my MSD Pro Billet.

They are made for a 4 pin distributor. If you still have the ESC distributor, the module won't work, since the ESC uses a 5 pin.
