What's the problem w/putting a washer under the castle nut?

I've had to do it before & it was never an issue. The nuts threads were fully engaged on the BJ shaft, the cotter-pin fits the notch in the castle nut, & the assembly was tightened enough that the tapered-shaft was firmly seated within the spindle (needed a pickle fork to separate the two pcs).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.
