exhaust idea

<--- Cool new icon. Anyways I was thinking of mounting my purple hornies in the back corners of the bed and using them as miny stack pipes. What do you guys think? I drew a picture of what it would look like but my scanner broke so I cant upload it. The back corners is the only place I could put stacks on my truck because of the gas tank. They are the turndown mufflers so they would face out the back and it would be just like a regular exhaust system only exit higher up. I plan on blowing the fiberglass out of them so they will work just like normal pipe and am going to use the aerochambers on it.

It will look different which is what I would like. At least one thing on my truck noone else would have. I don't know how much it would cost to weld them in the bed. Maybe I could find a way to bolt them to the bed.

I like where I live. I have two machine shops and a muffler shop all within 600 Ft. of my house that could probably do it. If I remember correctly a muffler shop wont work on a vehicle if you arnt haveing cats. installed when you are supposed to have them.

I'm not worried about the bed. It looks like crap already. The only thing I'm worried about is my tailgate getting turned black, but if I put them high enough up they might not mess it up.

I would suggest forgetting the purple hornies and the stack pipes combo. The aero chambers are a good idea for sure. The problem with the others is that there are too many things going on there. The X pipe is a great idea but if you want stacks I would change the bed to a stepside and run it like one memer has here in his Avitar. It has stacks and a stepside bed like the old Lil Dodge Express has years ago. This would be able to be ran easier. Plus having mufflers then purple hornies and a 90 bend like that will choke the exhaust flow for sure. Why not just have chrome tips dumped before the axle?

Like I said it was just an idea. I wanted to run i buy you guys to see what you thought. Yeah it probably would cut down on performance. And I cant convert to a stepside nor would I want to because I don't like the way 81-87 stepsides look. Anything I run will go out the back. I really don't like dumping it under the truck. So I guess for now I will go back to the old idea. I need to go with the cheapest setup anyway because I'm not gonna have alot of cash. I'm still waiting to see if I can get on at K-mart. So my orginal idea will be cheap enough for me to afford. BTW did you have any trouble mounting the x-pipe? I cant really tell from the pics if the crossmember got in the way or if you have a doublehump.

If you want to do the stack pipe that bad, dont use the purple hornies. Just go with some nice stainless steel pipes or something. The purple hornies will just make it look bad! I personally do not like the idea of stacks, but its your truck and what you like is all that matters. Like I said if you do the stacks, dont use the hornies!

When I went to the muffler shop I told him that I wanted the X pipe itself after the tranny. This makes it easier to work on the tranny with the pipe not in the way at all. He was able to do this by going one side over and one side under the crossover. It was the stock member not a doublehump. If you have a lowered truck then you might have trouble scraping. Then it goes into the X pipe. Most custom shops should not have any trouble at all.
