1970 gmc sierra grande 2500 longhorn, how rare?

This is my first post.

1970 gmc sierra grande 2500 longhorn, how rare and what is worth?

I am getting this truck to do a swb conversion. This truck is loaded with options, 402 BB , THM 400 trans, factory AC, bucket / console, cst options and lots of others. It a rust and dent free 70K original mile california truck. All documents a maintenece records. Perfect interior and nice paint.

I am feeling kind of guilty taking her apart when she is so nice as is, but its not my dream truck in current form. It would be an awsome starting point for swb. Let me know what you all think. Thanks

If you cut this truck up to make it a short bed the GMC gods will not be happy with you and you will probably have bad luck the rest of your life....... just saying

But if you do cut it up, then you'll have the truck that YOU want.

Go for it. It's a truck, not a Corvette.

X2 - it's your truck. I was reading a thread the other day about a guy needing a longhorn bed - it might be worth it to you to pay the 25 bucks and put it up for sale, they are hard to find.

I would seriously consider selling it as-is and purchasing a more plane-jane long bed to convert or a factory short bed. You should be able to get good money for what you have. The amount of work you need to do to convert it sort of overcomes the good starting point.

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande 2500 longhorn, how rare and what is worth?

what are your plans for a dream truck? Big Block, Sierra Grande, trim, '70, swb? If it is, I don't dare tell you to cut up such a disireable truck, but like others say, it is not a 67' Corvette, 71' Cuda', 69' Camaro, or 70' LS6 chevelle. It is not these, but it is a 70' Sierra Grande Longhorn, and for trucks, this would rate pretty high on a collectable truck. Like others said, you might be better off selling this nice truck to a collector and buy a truck that has the pieces you want and add the other things that you crave to it. There's very few really nice Longhorns out there and I do hate to see you cut it up, but if it makes more sense for you to do what you need to do, stay a member here and post the parts you take off so that others can benefit from what you do not like. It will be pretty time consuming to convert to a swb, and convert to 1/2 ton. Trevor

You need to post some pics of that! Especially if you are going to chop it up. I am sure that all of the members would appreciate seeing it in all it's glory before anything happens to it. I KNOW I WOULD!!!!!!!!!!!

happy new year

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande 2500 longhorn, how rare?

Sorry, no pics yet, I will post them as soon as I can. I have also thought about converting to a 4x4. If I did that I could retain all the orginal sheetmetal and keep somewhat original without completly changing her. I think it would be pretty bad ass to have loaded longhorn 4x4. It is not swb but almost as cool as far as im concerned. I just have to figure out what would be involved. I heard I could mate a tranfer case to the 2wd thm 400, but not sure. Also I will have to figure front spring hangers, steering and so on. Alomost forgot have to figure what to do about the low hump. I found a little info via diesel wrenchers conversion, but I would like a little more before I figure out what it would take. If anybody has any coments it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande 2500 longhorn, how rare?

If I had the time and money, I'd do a 4x4 longhorn way before I do a cut down short wheel base. Everybody does the cut down to swb thing. You don't see many longhorns converted to 4wd.

The th400 in a 4x4 is different however. The output shaft is different. It is shorter. The tail is gone and a transfer case adapter is there. The adapter then bolts to a transfer case.

Also through 1972 there were no th400 4x4s. They are available as GM offered them later. A th400 with a NP205 would be about a bullet proof as it gets.

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande 2500 longhorn, how rare?

There are divorced 205 transfer cases out there that will allow you to bolt a th400 in front of it. It takes a small driveshaft in between. I have one in my 1996 Silverado. Trevor

Keep it as is and enjoy, sell when you find your dream truck. Projects are expensive money wise, fustration wise, and bruised and bloody knuckles wise.
