project: What did I get myself into 50 chevy
This is the 1st build ive posted on here in a while, im hoping to get some motivation to finish this thing. I told my wife this would be a quicky project last summer so I could drive it last fall. LOL didnt happen, full build time! Im a little OCD I think.
50 chevy pickup, picked it up out of fort worth, had a blown head gasket but no big deal. Was already clipped with V8. Heres what we got as of now: camaro clip camaro rear end (posi I think!) 72 z28 350 freshened up camel hump heads (2.02/1.6) edelbrock intake/carb comp 268 cam HEI new ez wire harness cab and few other things are now painted, done in my garage not perfect but its just a driver no plans on showing it Paint is PPG Flame red pearl metallic with a satin clear, firewall and interior was an afterthought its just a cheap vintage white I got at a swap meet. Plan was white walls and black steelies static dropped. I think ive changed my mind though, thinking about 18s and bags now. Enough bull**** on with the pics! hacked up rusty dash engine before

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Firewall smoothed seams, 46 holes all shaved way more hours of labor than I really care to think about
crappy before shot Fixed and painted dash before engine after rebuild and about 30 hours of cleaning and painting, stupid billet valve covers and stuff came with it already have new finned black/polished stuff paint combo, its really dark red not orange its hard to get a good picture of Lots of pearl!

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Taking a break from block sanding
Pretty much how it sits now So far its 100% home built, in my garage paint and all. Paint looks great, my body work under the paint kinda sucks, but it was my first full down to metal, bodywork, and paint job. I used a cheap filler and I think it shrank in a few spots.

Very nice, keep up the good work. What color is the dash and firewall? We are painting my dad's 52 sedan a cool vanilla that looks pretty similar.

Dash and firewall are just a cheap "vintage white" I picked up at a swap meet.

Your truck is looking good. You comment About being a quick turn around stopped me in my tracks because I just spoke those same words a week ago. Hang in there and keep pushing. Your plans sound like the making of a great truck

Looking good! Don't feel too bad, my '50 is still sitting on a trailer in the driveway.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
I had to laugh when I read the title, been there many many times. Started my 51 1/2 ton "quick" project in 93 yes 1993. Seems as though I get it so far and then change directions and I'm not really building anything special. Like everyone else says keep plugging away you'll get there!

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Thanks for the comments.
So i have this big ugly hole in the firewall for the heater motor. I think I found a cool way to hide it. If it doesnt work ill make it a gas cap. Triumph points cover should match my valve covers and air cleaner pretty well. Plan is to paint the inside of the fins black to match the rest of the motor.

No, I stole that picture from the web. I have the correct ones and a matching air cleaner already.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Well I Decided on different wheels so I did some measuring and the rear axle is waaay to wide. Its 64 hub to hub and I really need 58ish. Ill track down an axle this weekend. I didnt want to do suspension yet but ill go ahead and 4 link it now and save some time. I already have front bag cups and a 4 link I got for a steal locally.

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
I think most of us here can relate to the title of this thread quite well.
I like the work you have done on the truck this far. Maybe that will push the rest of us a bit to get stepping on our projects and make some similar progress. |

Re: project: WTF did I get myself into 50 chevy
Boxes and boxes of goodies showed up at work today. All my air ride crap is here now and got wheels today! Did the group buy on here and got a killer deal!
18x8s, ill mount the tires next week. The rears took me too long, I suck at the tire machine. 18x9.5s on fatty 285/35s, almost ordered 20x10s but these have a fatter lip and I think will tuck better in the rear. All up in mah grille...just a grille. Wiring in progress...done! Hood! Shaved seam, shaved 3100 badges and front emblem. I kept the chevrolet emblems just for a little bling. About 15 hours of bodywork. Ready for paint! Fenders, these things sucked! Lots of body work. Ill hit them with sealer tomorrow...might need more hi-build and sanding.

Catching some sun for the 1st time this spring. 4 guys stopped by trying to buy it this day. One wanted my VW and had a wad of cash in hand. Told him no!
