radio/ interior light gremlins

i attached one of those adapters that lets you broadcast from your ipod to the radio. Unfortunately, when attached into the lighter, it flickered, then the underdash light went on and the adapter went off. Now, when the lighter is in, the underdash light goes on, and the radio does not work. when the bulb is taken out of the underdash light, then it works. My question is, what could be the problem? the lighter, a blown fuse, the radio, the light? Thanks

Re: radio/ interior light gremlins

I unhooked the radio, no change. I checked fuses. The lighter now does not work. I disconnected it also. When I re-install the bulb to the underdash light, it allows the overhead console lights to work, but not very brightly. When the door is shut, the underdash light is dimmer but still stays illuminated.

All of this occurred initially at the same time I plugged in the ipod transmitter to the cig outlet.

I get the impression that an improper source is feeding the circuit somehow, but I have not been able to isolate anything. I have looked at wires and have not found any shorts, and nothing looks like it became hot.

Thanks

Re: radio/ interior light gremlins

checked all fuses again.
re-attached cig lighter.
put underdash bulb back in.
Radio still disconnected b/c was going to replace anyway.

Now no interior lights work, with door open or shut, except when I turn headlight switch full left / c-clockwise. Then the underdash light illuminates.

Re: radio/ interior light gremlins

You are right, and it is not the first time. It usually doesn't become a problem until I disagree with myself.
