Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

Florida is getting bad, $200 because I got it out of state, $268 for tags and title, at least there was no sales tax I guess they have to make up for no State income tax.

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

IIRC, What you paid was $200 "impact" fee (bought out of state) $200 new tag issue fee and the $68 for the decal and title transfer fee.

When I bought my 97 locally, Luckily I had a old tag in my name that saved me that $200 new tag fee.

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

I guess I am glad I live in Virginia even if my county just sent me a personal property tax bill on my 82' for $ 38.00.................. 1st one I have gotten on a vehicle over 20 years old and I always have one laying around. Good thing I am going with antique plates and it is a one time $ 50 fee. No more registration bills every year........... Sorry Chuck

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

My tag renewal this year was $22. Sounds like I'd be moving away from california.

I don't think it went anywhere, but check out their law they were discussing about banning black and such colors on new cars because they made the AC run harder on a sunny day, causing more emissions.

Had a thought: Dang imagine how much it would suck if all the states had different emissions standards... 50 standards to keep up with. Thatd suck.

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

My '87 was $68 total.....and I always buy out of state no matter what. "New tag fee"??? What the hell is that about?? That's insanely high. I can't beleive people just take this kinda stuff and shell out the money. I live in oklahoma and I'll admit it's not the best most up-to-date fun place to live but we have NO EMISSION LAWS and no state inspection. And we sure as hell don't have any $200 new tag fee or fees for buying out of state. That's ****ty if you ask me, it's like there gonna make pay no matter what you do. This may seem irrational, but I'd move!!

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

Old beaters like my 83 C20 cost about $35 per year in AZ. But, I just picked up a new 2010 Sierra Ext Cab today - $489 plates + 9.1% sales tax. We just recently voted ourselves an extra 1% "temporary" sales tax increase because the state officials are doing such a good job managing tax revenue we thought that we should give them some more of our money to spend. The city of Tucson will be asking for another 1% in this fall's election - so figure 10% + on most everything you buy in AZ, plus we have a state income tax. Of course, if you are "visiting" from south of the border, no tax, title, plates, driver's license, or auto insurance required on non-U.S. titled vehicles, unlike U.S. titled vehicles driven in other countries.

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

yea i always have a late fee here in Tucson because i forget to renew my tags and i never go above $60 including the $13 to do the emissions test and the historic vehicle plate...sorry dude almost better off with a newer car where it makes a little more sense to pay closer to your amount

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

Yep, i've owned my '91 k5 for 3 months now and still haven't got the tag/title done because it's so expensive. They're basing how much you pay on the weight of your vehicle. My step-father just bought a '97 Merc. Mountaineer [Ford Explorer] and he had to pay $400+ for the lot, and i KNOW my Blazer weighs more than it...

This is Florida's way of making sure every single one of it's residents has to drive a smart car lol.

$60.00 for emissions test. $130 for tags for 2 years. However our I/M program here in Anchorage is to be discontinued in May 2011 because our air quality has been so good here for the past 15 years. Oh and if your a senior citizen or a disabled vet then the title/registration fee is $1.00

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

You guys in the States have it so good!

My 81 cost me $120 for 3 months! If I had plated it for the year would have been $419.

My wifes 09 Traverse is $1080 per year and my company truck is over $1400!

But I live in a province the size of Texas with only 1 million people in it. Someones got to pay to pave the roads. Only good thing is that we don't have annual inspections or smog laws - yet. Our registration does come with insurance, but $700 deductible and $200k liability is stupid. And I still have to buy a policy on top of that for the truck because it goes unlicensed for most of the year.

Ours used to be on a sliding scale similar to AZ with the tab fee being based on vehicle value and age but we had a guy get a bunch of signatures that put an initiative on the ballot that got voted in and set the tab fees at $30. Trucks have a sliding scale based on load rating. My K20's tabs are $45.

It was kind of nice when you had an old car before. My dads 40 Buick the tabs were $4. Not so nice when you got a new expensive car. A friends BMW cost him over $1300 for the tabs.

Here in Alabama I paid $36 for a new tag and to get the title transfered on an out-of-state truck. Same thing when i brought my 76, $36 to transfer my tag and title.

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

Indiana isn't too bad. I bought mine in Illinois and all I had to do was show the DMV gal the VIN, to confirm ??? We have to do that with any out of state vehicles. I bought my Roadking in MI, and I had to show all three VINS on that. Plates/registration wasn't bad, something like $23 for my 86 C10, so I added $50 for a D.A.R.E. plate. Figured it supports a good cause and might get me out of a ticket one day. I remember shelling out around $100 total, including title transfer, sales tax, and plates good for something like 16 months.

Re: Tag/Title my 87 $468!!

I'll have to update my tag on the '87 when I get it rolling again, kinda curious what the penalty will be on a tag that's 5 years overdue.

For those of you that suggest the original poster move to another state, I would be willing to bet that every state (including yours) has something that that angers you at least as much as the cost of his vehicle registration angers him.

If we all moved every time the city or state we lived in did something stupid or offensive, we would all be moving around an awful lot.
