Am I getting a fair trade?

I found a guy on my local CL with a set of front fenders for sale they were installed on his '79 at one time.
He says they are rust free and from the picture of them on the truck I would guess aftermarket.
He seems set on trading more than just cash, so he's come up with this trade his fenders for my extra parts from a '70s 350: a set of heads, exhaust manifolds, 4 barrel intake, 2 barrel intake, crankshaft, valvecovers, a quadrajet, hei distributor, pistons and rods PLUS $90. I think he's a bit high on the cash add on amount...or am I just being a tightwad.
I know good body parts in my area are like gold considering how they salt the roads around here.
I just want to make sure I'm not getting screwed. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: Am I getting a fair trade?

The aftermarket fenders retail (high end retail, you should be able to beat retail price) for $177 each +tax. If you're getting the wheelhouse as well, that's an extra $100 retail per side new aftermarket.

Is about all the help I can offer on it since I have no real idea what your parts are really worth.

It's not including the inner wheel wells. My thing is I have no way of know what quality they really are w/o a receipt.

He sounds really high to me. But I know good body panels are harder to come by up there. You can pick a set of good fenders up down here for cheap.

It would be no deal for me. Those parts plus 90 are worth more than that . how much was he asking when he put a price on the fenders?

Sounds like a pretty rough trade, in my opinion. I'd tell him to pound sand.

Sounds like Highway robbery....................don't see many 73-80's in the pick and pulls anymore. Go to Certifit up in B'more and save yourself some money.

Not a good deal at all. Keep looking, you'll find others.

Re: Am I getting a fair trade?

I dont think thats a good deal.. HELL I paid 150 bux for a complete 76 swb with solid front fenders and repairable bed and new tires. Cab is shot to hell and motor blown but a great parts truck. I would maybe swap even, but I wouldnt give him anything.

I finally got a cash price after saying no deal on all the parts + $90.
He says: "I can do 135 for both. They r on ebay for 165 for one"
I don't base much on what the going price is on ebay.

You are somewhat close to me ( I am 20 miles south of DC ). I would try going to Certifit up in B'more. I believe their repos are running about $ 60 bucks each. I have a set I would give you in a pinch free of charge but, they need too much rust repair. I bought an entire front clip shortly after I got by Blazer sight unseen but, the only thing that was good was the radiator support...................

If you are in a pinch buy em but if not wait it out. I got a set of fenders for my 87 in trade for all the plastic trim of the parts truck plus the door panels.

Re: Am I getting a fair trade?

I'm going to pass on them for now, Certifit up in B'more appears to be about the same for new repros as he's asking for his used, plus I'm looking into a similar truck to mine in much better shape so it may become my project truck with my '74 then becoming a parts truck if it all works out.
