Ok heres what I got. 68 GMC,2"drop spring + 2.5" drop spindels,total front drop is 4.5". Tires are 275/60/15. rims are 15x8. Back space, I dont know. What is the proper backspace for front wheels? I would like to keep that size of tire if possible. If not I would go with 255/60/15. I find 245/60/15 too small. Would a 15x7" rim help my situation?

Man.... that's a lot of tire for a 4.5 drop. I've got a 4" drop with 255/60/15's on 15x8 rally wheels and i only have like an inch and a half of clearance. I would say go with a smaller tire like a 235/60/15 with a 15x7 wheel. there's a few people with that setup on the board (i think). Maybe they'll shoot you some pics. here's mine with a 4/4 drop 255/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear.

it rubs on the outside part of tire. It hits the bolt that hols the inner fender. some ppl has 17" rims in front and I dont hear them complating abbout rubbing. That rim/tire combo is taller than my combination.

Guys,

I had 295/50's on my 67 that was lowered that far and I didn't have a scraping problem inside or outside...I think it is a backspacing issue...does the front tire rub when the wheels are straight or turned?

best tip put it back to stock height and it wont rub

First, a 275-60 is 28 inches tall. That's really too much tire for the front of a lowered truck. I usually either run 235 or 245-60s. Also, keep in mind, that most guys running 17s have a shorter overall package than those 28 in tall tires you got.

Of course, the backspacing is pretty critical when you drop one down, but no measure of backspace is going to help you much with that size tire.

A good number for front backspacing is 4 1/2 or 5 with an 8 inch wheel. Remember, those drop spindles widened your front track by about an inch overall.

My truck in the pic below is dropped 4 1/2 inches in the front, with a 235-60 tire. I really wish it was a 245 though. 7 inch wheel with 3 1/2 backspacing on the front.

These aren't the greatest pics, but here is the 67 I had with 15X10's all the way around and 295/50's...The front was an inch lower but I raised it back up....

A 295/50 is way shorter than his 275/60 though. That's why it cleared so well.
