Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer

OK, now for some more progress pics!
Looks like typical right fender cap rust. Had to fill in some old speaker holes.

Well done, your welding skills amaze me....did you hold that speaker hole patch in place with two magnets?

Thanks for taking the time for the update

Rust be gone

There nothing exciting about smearing and sanding mud. All loose parts except tailgate, ready to prime.

Smile Re: New life for an old 2wd, farm Blazer

And a few more. Parts primed and relaxing in the warm sunshine!
As with any project there are a lot of "since we're doing this, we might as well do that, and while you have that apart, can you go ahead and fix this?"
We are at a cross road so to speak. This was just going to be a frame on, paint and clean up, kind of project. Now Joel is contemplating going the "frame off" route. As the old saying goes "speed costs, how fast can you afford to go?" Well, the same can be said for a restoration.
Nobody wants to spend more than they need to. I always tell the customer, you'll never do a frame off, and then when it's done say "I wish I would have just half assed it, to save some money". What ALWAYS happens is this. After you checkbook recovers, you always end up saying, " I wish I would have done this". I also tell them that it is real easy for ME to spend YOUR money! So in the end you have to decide what it is that you ultimately want the finished product to be. What will Joel decide to do? He says he needs a little time to sleep on it, and come up with a plan to sweet talk the wife.
Stay tuned to see where this project goes from here.

That's an impressive amount of work that you've done! I wish I had the skills and balls that you have to tackle that much rust. I also totally agree with your comment, "As the old saying goes "speed costs, how fast can you afford to go?" Well, the same can be said for a restoration." I'm in that scenario right now. My Blazer is at a restoration shop and I am trying to get it ALL done right so I don't regret anything later.

I did use magnets. If you've ever welded near a magnet, it messes with the electric current. So I use them for tacking them in place, then remove.

A few more. I'm kinda anal about making all of my repairs invisible. Even when they will be covered with carpet.
