Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
An update....
Got the burb running and tranny adjusted out. Had new exhaust ran. Next thing will be to change springs out. I am taking off the Skyjacker 4 in spring lift, and putting about an 2 1/2 - 3 inch lift back on. I will then be selling the Skyjacker kit, which has about 10 miles on it, just a little high for this DD. I will then be replacing the entire front clip, with a 67 Chevy front end. Will add new aux battery tray and front replacement bumper as well. In the pic, is my first trip to buy Diesel fuel. Those are 235/85/16's on the tank, and trying to decide to go up to 255/85/16's in the same tire, which is Cooper Discoverer ST's. Really like the tread, just not sure about size? Feel free to give opinion, because might help me decide. |

I think 285/75/16 wrapped on those skinny steels would look tough.

Something about a 4x4 with tall skinny tires just gets me excited. Definately tough but classy and tasteful!

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
Nice swap! Are you going to add a turbo? Gassers are ok for most but when you want to have it all then you step up to diesel. You can't tell I'm a diesel tech can you? Looks like a fairly straight forward swap. Close to the same dementions as a small block. I too like the 67-68 front clips especially the GMC's.

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
If you decide to go with a turbo on that thing, I know someone with a complete setup.

The Burb is looking good Tommy. I think I would like it a little lower too, but you know how short I am... LockDoc

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
Hey, did you use SBC perches and BBC mounts or did you do something different to get the 6.2L to fit?

Re: Dbear's '71 4x4 Burb with some USA Military Diesel
hey bud....I moved the engine cradle forward about 1 7/8in, mostly for the 700r4 swap, but it actually helped the motor fit very nicely. I basically mounted the 6.2 to the stock sbc chevy engine cradle with sbc engine mounts in between. Everything cleared very good. let me know if you have any more questions.
