Re: Best auto trans for Cummins?

1972K20 - I am running a 4L80 behind a 24 Valve VP that is stock and a NP205 TC. I only have a little over 200 miles on it so far but it seems to work nice so far. I still haven't pulled anything with it because I need to put a GN hitch in it first. My 4L80 is all stock and I was told it came out of diesel suburban. You have to rev it up a little more than I am used to when you take off from a stop but it shifts smooth.

How did you set it up?

Did you use anything like this:

Yes, I had to purchase the transmission adapter, flex plate, new starter, PCS transmission controller, I had to get a spacer to connect the Trans to the NP205, and run a transmission cooler. The Dodge Cummins radiator lacks the transmission cooler connections. My PCS transmission controller has to be hooked up to a computer to change the settings but they make one with adjustment settings on the controller itself. It's definitely not cheap.
