I wonder if a 6-71 could be installed in a 73-87 truck, that would be pretty sweet.

In a 2-Ton Truck, it would be a tight fit and a lot of custom work, but it is possible. A 6V-53 would be a better choice. A 4-53 was actually a factory option in certain years of that era.
