one of a kind
made by chevy
22 foot factory 3100 frame

yes, i'd truckrodify it, but not at the stupid ridiculous $50,000 asking price

Re: got cash? 22 ft suburban

Neat.

A local guy had an '80s Suburban that had been made for tours here in NH. It had two sets of extra doors. Neat to see but he got tired of driving it really quickly. Eventually he made a six door rollback out of it. Didn't get that much when he sold it.

Re: got cash? 22 ft suburban

We talked about these in a thread in January. Contrary to what the seller says I found that a company called Stageway (and others) would get the front clip and frame from GM, then do the body mods. GM's longest frame was a whopping 375" or 31 feet.

Other companies that were doing custom coach building were:
The D.E.K. Manufacturing Company Orrville Ohio
Alton Co. Pigeon Michigan, www.altonco.com.
Holan A Division of the Ohio Brass Company Cleveland Ohio
McCabe-Powers Body Company St. Louis MO.
Montpelier Manufacturing Company of Montpelier, Ohio
Proctor-Keefe Body Co., Inc. Detroit Michigan
Crown Steel Products Co. & Orrville Metal Specialty Co. Orrville Ohio
Automotive Industries Inc. Owendale, Michigan
Armbruster (Stageway) & company, Inc Fort Smith Arkansas

Re: got cash? 22 ft suburban

Dumb question because I missed the thread in Jan., but what would you use these for? The bottom one i can see as an ambulance or crew hauler but any bigger, why not just buy a short bus?

Re: got cash? 22 ft suburban

That one was a school bus but many got built as airport shuttles or for national parks to haul people around.

I'd have to thing that truck was one step from the scrap pile before the seller picked it up for scrap price or not much more though.

Re: got cash? 22 ft suburban

That is most likely a stageway conversion based on the roof rack. I researched the heck out of these when I had a chance to pick one up but passed on it. Anyone else notice the 57 fender badges on the only 56 made...lol

Re: got cash? 22 ft suburban

There used to be one of these parked in a field on the highway going up to Crater Lake Or. It apparently was used as a shuttle bus. I could still see some hotel logo very faded on the driver door. I think the hotel was in Medford and used it to haul people back and forth to the lake. I don't remember the name of the hotel but it was in town since it wasn't anything like Crater Lake National Park Lodge wwhich was built as a WPA project. I've stayed in it but it was a long time ago, like 50 years. I remember seeing some stuff about a major remodel in progress there.

That thing was on eBay not that long ago. I was watching the auction and they couldn't get anyone to bid on it, at a starting bid of $1000. Here's a pic of the auction.
