gauge question

hey guys did the ls swap on my c10 im using the 90 suburban cluster my question is all my gauges work but no dash lights now do i have to have my headlights and tail lights wired up for these to work i replaced old wiring harness with a new one from speedway motors and havent finished any of the head lights or taillights wiring just wondering if thats the reason for no gauge lights???

brake lights and such are Ground-ON, so I don't think they would affect the dash lights. Have you tried just jumping a switched 12v to the cluster lighting to verify the lights themselves work?
