Chevy 16.5x9.75 steel wheels

Just spent half a day going to junkyards looking for (4) 16.5x9.75 steel wheels off a GM or Chevy. No luck as they would say ............ I called Stockton wheel to see what they charge, Powder-coated are $$$ 225.00 each plus freight. I will keep looking until I have no choice but to buy the expensive ones. Hope I can locate some as my neighbor owns a powder-coating facility.

If I were you, I would not bother with the 16.5 wheels.
Look for a set of later model 16's, you will have more tire choices.

I am running 16.5's and pretty much the only choice for a tire is BFG AT's.
There are a couple other brands, but they are special order and may take a while to get. Even the BFG tires will have to be ordered, but being that it is a big name brand they usually have them the next day.

Would you still be able run the 1969 caps on a 16 inch wheel ? How would it look ? Do you have any pics of that combo ?

I have seen this Suburban in person, and it is an extremely well detailed build of a 4x4 Suburban.

Junkyard 16.5X9.75 sandblasted and powder coated. These were hard to find. I couldn't find one in all of northern California. These came from Oregon when we went on Thanksgiving vacation. I was looking around the small out of the way junkyards to finally get lucky. Each two (left to right) are a matching set. Some stamped GM, Firestone. Some outer nub and some inner nub, a set with clips. Each set has a different backspacing. I have 4 more on the way.

Yes you did have a gold mine. These are very hard to find. I have looked in over 20 junkyards to find these. Ive seen these go for as high as $135.00 each unpainted. I will probably do some horse trading with these.

I'm still confused as to why you would want them, tire selection can be miserable and expensive. If your ever out on the road and need one? Forget about it.

Why would I want them ? 1. I like the look. 2. Price, they are cheap in the JY if you can find some. 3. I can sell them or trade them to someone for something else that I need. 4. I like wheels made in America. 5. I like tires made by Iterco for the 16.5 http://www.intercotire.com/tires.php?id=6&g=1 (6.) I am not concerned about having a flat tire anywhere. 7. Have you priced new 16 inch steel wheels lately ? Very expensive. 8. I love junkyarding. I can go on but you must understand it's what I like and it's my money. I will do as I please with my hoard As of yet I have not installed any of these on my burb but plan too. I might change my mind at some point as I do not have anything written in stone. You do have a valid point with tire selection as there is not much for 16.5

I had a set of these on my K20 when I bought it. Too deep for my tastes, I traded em for a bench seat (not a truck seat) that I really wanted. I was happy, he was happy. To each their own.

I don't look for truck stuff much anymore, but if I run across some I will let you know unclefreddy. Maybe we can trade for something cool =)

These wheels are very cool but as has been mentioned many times tire selection is a really big deal, at least for anything like street tires. Make sure you check into it very closely before you spend any money. I had some I was going to use and eventually sold them because of the tire issue.

I've heard that but if you look there are a good amount of tires available for these wheels. Maybe not the biggest selection but basically anything you would need. I personally am a fan of the BFgoodrich all terrains which are available for this size so I'm golden.

Definitely not trying to talk anybody out of using these wheels. Do it and then post pics, because I love them as much as anybody. I only gave up when I stumbled across a brand new set of 31x10.5 16.5 tires in some guys barn and got them for $200. They are perfect on my 8.25 wide Camper Special wheels. When those tires are gone the wheels will be truly obsolete..

Somebody else mentioned something about availability of the 33" BFG's. One store told me that they only make a few of them once in a while so they can sometimes be hard to locate. One tire store expressed concern that they could disappear completely with no notice. I would buy them now just to have them. You will find the wheels eventually. Search on Craigslist for "8 lug" or "truck wheels" and slog thru them all. The people that have them never know what they are. Then you have to deal with the inner nub, outer nub and clip hubcap deal that somebody else mentioned. I've even seen them with 6 lug patterns. If nothing else it will keep you out of bars. Maybe. I'm running 33s, BFG A/Ts, did not have any problem finding the tires (this particular tire). To each his own... But I like the offset (slightly staggered actually) and the look is what I was after. I've been pleased so far. I don't put too many miles (per year) on mine... So the tires will most likely rot before they wear out... And I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I'm in the same boat as you dougo. I don't put many miles at all on mine and I feel like there is still a decent amount of older trucks or even newer trucks at that that run 16.5 inch wheels especially those who are into offroading with their vehicle.

8 lug wheels are supposed to interchange between all makers. The OP may want to look at for example 16" or whatever.
I can go to the pick a part and find 8 lug wheels all day because no one wants them.
My opinion is that the tire sidewall is part of the suspension and is a needed cushion. Translation, not a fan of huge wheels wrapped in a bit of baloney.

The wheel look great power coated. the truck they are mounted on looks great too.
