Re: 1971 GMC suburban interior done finally
I made the angle brackets out of left over metal framing I had from a building project. I also added a piece of flat strap to upper cushion under the hinges. The last part of the project is mounting the stops so you can get the right angle to the bucket seats.

The cup holder was like $6 from bi-mart. It is meant to slide in between a seat and center console but it fit perfectly. The center cushion doesn't touch it.

The headliner is suede with perforated holes to have the stock look. It has bows and seams in the stock locations.

The vinyl is kind of a matte finish and I think they call it distressed.

Re: 1971 GMC suburban interior done finally
I'm not sure of the brand of three point harness. Ordered from LMC I think. It was a while ago. I wish the latch looked like the original with the GM logo in the middle but I'm willing to overlook that in the name of safety. I plan on putting shoulder harnesses in all three pickups. Nothing I can do about the blazer which is what I drive most of the time.

Everything is looking good! Thanks for the closeups on the brackets. I think I can do the Panel Truck about the same way. I have a step-up in the floor right behind the seats but that might be a plus..... LockDoc

If anyone was looking for GM logo seatbelts I just outfitted my Suburban with shoulder harnesses from Julianos with the metal GM push-buttons. Kinda pricey but hard to put a price tag on the safety they provide to passengers. I did use a lap belt in the center of the front seat and one for the middle seat where it is offset but all others have shoulder harnesses. http://www.julianos.com/product-p/jugmm3p.htm |

Re: 1971 GMC suburban interior done finally
Is there a provision for the shoulder belts in the second and third rows like there is for the first? I just took the covers off of the nut insert in the front row of mine this weekend to make sure they are there. Wondering if you had to do your own mounting point.

Re: 1971 GMC suburban interior done finally
Yes, each row in my '72 had factory provisions for shoulder harnesses, under the plastic plug. Bolted right up. I did use the "generic" set and not the "direct fit" version which seem to be tailored more for trucks than Suburbans.

Re: 1971 GMC suburban interior done finally
Drove the family around the block for the first time. All the kids took there shoes off. Waiting on two lower trim pieces that are on back order.
I think the quality of the aftermarket trim is very nice but the fasteners that are sold in a kit leave a lot to be desired. The double sided tape is too thick and makes the trim stick out. It would be just as easy to copy the original tape. We ripped it off and used 3M weather strip adhesive. |

Does anyone else think I should lower the rear so it sits level? It's 3/4 ton but I never plan to tow with it.

Wouldn't touch the ride height unless, as said before, you're gonna lower it. Looks perfect.

Your interior looks excellent! Your entire burb is very, very nice! Great job! I'd also leave it the stance it is right now.

I dig a little bit of rake, especially on something with 8-lug wheels. Looks real good to me.

Got my cup holder installed! I just used some heavy duty Velcro to attach it. Thanks for the idea!
