38 ford ground up

Hi, my name is Marc and I want to show my newest project. My first build thread is on the 47 and up board. A second gen 55 chevy I am converting to 4x4. I found the board keep me motivated and I have learned a lot from reading other peoples build. I also hope my threads can be helpful to others. Right now the 55 is in paint jail so I picked up this 38 ford cab as a project to keep me busy. My actual next project after the 55 is a 68 firebird I have since high school. I figure I can do all the sheet metal work on the 38 between saving money of the firebird.
Right now my vision is kinda of a hybrid rat rod. A 4inch chop, custom bed, home built frame, c4 corvette suspension and mild 350 but nice pains and body work and as comfortable interior I can make.
I have about 2 months before the 55 comes back so I am trying to do as much as possible. I need to justify all the tools I am buying and am looking forward to the challenge of a ground up build.

Re: 38 ford ground up

The body is not that bad except the cowl. The doors have rot on the bottoms but I am not worried about that. Overall I think $350 was a good deal. I was hopping I could find a patch panel but I can not find anything. Since I am worried about the cowl I decided to start there. I wanted to save the vent but it was too hard to save. This is my progress over the last couple days. Going to take advantage of the hole and do some rust control and painting on the inside firewall. Try to get final fit and tac weld into place next week.

Re: 38 ford ground up

Hi, I am sure this will be a nice build but you may want to move it to the Alternate Tinkering section. I think this section is for pre 47 Chevys only.
You will get more response over there also.

The 2 bends were too close to each other so I had to bend one by hand.

Re: 38 ford ground up

I made this for the structural part of the door hinge. Excuse the welds I just bought a TIG walker and am teaching myself how to TIG. Not the best metal for TIG I needed some rec. tube and the was my last piece.

The outside has a slight arch to it about 3/8 more in the center and the inside is straight so I could not used the bender to make the flange for the outer skin. I must have measured 10 times but I had to cut a pie wedge in the bottom for a better fit in the back.

A little wishful thinking. Thinking about 100-110 inch WB.
