Re: advise

Thanks for all the info! I'm glad that $10k isn't that far off. I was hoping for closer to $20k
The truck does start and run/drive. He started it several times a year and every now and then drive it down to the end of the road and back. It does really need a good detailing. Would I be better off detailing it and making it presentable rather than leaving the Barn Find look?
Also, it has the original tires, would I be better off putting some modern radials on it as the ones that are on it I wouldn't trust t further than the end of driveway.
It does have power brakes and steering that were added. I don't think that the dealer added. My dad would have went to a junk yard and found a truck that had them so he could make sure everything was there, pulled and put on himself. Also was added a regulator for a second battery. It had a camper on it at one time.
That plastic on the seats, my mom remembers ordering just after they bought it. I don't think it's been off since.

This is a pic from about 12 years ago when it was out for a bath.

Re: advise

If it was my truck i would leave it as is and sell it that way. at the price point you are wanting spending 5/600 on tires will not get you 5/600 more on the sale. Someone that buys your truck is buying it for the originality and prominence and I'd leave it up to the purchaser to get tires and do anything that need stop be done. The big thing as I pointed out in my last post is that it runs and drives so a buyer will know what they are getting.

Re: advise

I would leave it as it is, just having it running and driving is good. Leave the original tires on it. Post up some more pictures when you can, I'm a huge fan of low mile original survivor trucks.

Re: advise

YES! Great advise. Guess that's why I'm here.
I think that I'll clean it up a bit and post it here first. I KNOW someone will love the originality of this truck. While there is some sentimental value there, I really would like to see this to go so someone who'll realize how cool this truck is and not hack it all up.
--Thanks Fred

Re: advise

Here's a Pic of when I brought back from my Grandfather's barn around 1998. I pulled it 250 miles home with my '88 Ranger! I think that I could fastest I could go was about 55mph, any faster it would get squirrely!

Re: advise

That's a good load for a Ranger! Where did your grandfather live? Do you know the dealership name that he bought it from?

That could work for you ... or not!. It depends on how you go about it.
Several years ago, I bought a very low mile survivor (the 1966 in my avatar) from a similar situation.
The relatives of the deceased owner also "cleaned it up a bit" to prepare it for sale, and boy do I wish they hadn't. The truck is still an amazing specimen of originality, but was 100% untouched beforehand. Little things like hose clamps and a fuel pump, cardboard fuel tank cover removal and bumper paint re-do. Worst offense I think was a high pressure wash on the 8700 mile engine. A sad amount of factory color got blown off on that one.
Most of these things could've been handled differently, and as the winning bidder I would have preferred to do it myself. I may have even paid more if the truck had remained 100% as found.
I do not know your skills or abilities, or exactly the condition of the truck, but I can tell you one thing for sure, it's original ONCE. No going back on errors in judgement, or plain goofs.
Good luck, and I hope it all goes well.

Re: advise

I 100% agree with you! When I say I'll clean it up, I really mean blow the dust off, wash it, etc. There are some non-original part here and there, but I wouldn't change them! It still has the original plugs/wires/cap and rotor and it has a miss but I'll let the next owner take care of that. Fresh gas, oil change and a wash, I'll handle that.
