I'm right there with you. I recently picked up a 68 Panel with rust issues. I'm also learning to weld and started on the cowl area too! If you can weld thin rusty metal, everything else is easy, lol.

Installed kick panel speakers, and had to move switch over.
Now I to need to install this beast. Eager to find out how it will feel after.

Trying to figure out what these are? They are bolted to the frame on each side near the motor mounts.

Is that something factory? (Assuming you weren’t joking)

This truck, despite having come to me without an engine, seems to be pretty clean and original. Even the little exhaust manifold bolt “clips” were still sitting on the cowl from when the engine was pulled (no idea why the engine came out— maybe blew up, maybe it went into something else?) The outside paint is super sun baked and faded but the interior makes me believe the 20,xxx shown on the odometer is probably only rolled over once

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Got the truck running again. Been sitting for 8 years.

No longer have room to keep it anymore. Needs a little work from sitting... Has lifter noise, needs wiring repairs, and a good cleaning up.

Still drives very nice, hate to see it go.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Sanded the roof going to paint in a few days roof will be off white . Now I have to back tape everything I just painted . The tape is starting to add up . Good automotive tape is outrageously priced but the regular box store stuff dont work. At least the bug decided to land in an area not seen

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finished up a brake booster installation. Removed the engine harness so I could unwrap it, extend the brake sensor wire by 9" under the wrapping, and re-wrapped and installed it. Not sure I routed the sensor wire the correct way. Seems a little precarious where it is. Also painted and installed a choke delete I got from daddymoo2. It's nice to have that hole covered up.

Finished cleaning up the passenger side inner fender yesterday. Had to weld in a little patch to fix some rust at the brace. Will be doing the other side next.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Performed a little work on my carb - did a vacuum check and installed the correct step up springs for it (they had not been optimized since I rebuild and got timing dialed in). Engine runs great, and is much more fun to drive. Met friends at a local cruise night and braved the rain to get a nice drive in.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Pulled the carburator on the 68 anniversary to send it out for rebuilding. Found the base gasket was bad and had been for a while as there was heavy rust on the manifold around the front ports . New gaskets and plugs truck sounds great. Still going to get it rebuilt but now it can wait till winter.

Been working on the raised bed lately. Yesterday I was able to build out the battery mount area on each side as well as install a bear claw latch for the floor.
