I paid $2300 for a running and drivable ex-firetruck with 30k miles. Being an old firetruck, it was taken care of. That said, I have exceeded your price cap with my repairs, updates, etc. Some parts are hard to find and can be pricey if you do locate them. Do most of my work myself.

A lot of the sheetmetal is no longer made, so you'll need to source donors.
Not trying to talk you out of it, I think these trucks are great, but these certainly aren't cheap hobbies.
