Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
I will throw My opinion in.
Put those samples against the seat belts. If you don't like the look of them beside the seat belt you won't Like it Later on. Because those seat belts will be laying across what ever you chose. Truck is looking good. And those are good shocks That what my Brother buys. They ride GREAT. .

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
I dig that one too, kinda like the yellow in there, even though there's no other yellow on the truck,,,

Oh I know! and if you weren't 2K miles away I'd buy if from ya! Roadtrip to CA one of these days? Quote:
Also, I'm not 100% sold on it, but i really like the look of the '72 Highlander seats, so that's what had me going in that direction. If I could find one identical to the whats on it now i'd probably run it...

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
About an hour. Some of the ancient bolts were on there pretty good.
No I didn't. Same deal, can't stand ripping holes in the cab if I can help it. Its pretty secure under the seat, doesn't really move around much. the 4 gauge wire holds it in place pretty well...

'72 Highlander seat for reference... Not sure I'd love the white vinyl...

Here is a close up of that fabric, on this seat. I was told it was a really nice material and somewhat like a soft tweed. If it’s like that Carmine Red Seat I did, it is very nice material!

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
I think it is a really cool idea. Hard to picture it in a pickup cab for some reason. If you're determined to go plaid, I recommend the one with white and black, middle right side. I'd purchase a square foot or two though and really make sure that's what you want. I like the highlanders too, but it's a bit of a gamble that you will want all of that visual activity.

Just so you know, the truck overall has kinda captured my imagination and I'm enjoying following along. Those shocks look like they are the originals. I am a big fan of the Bilsteins so I think changing them out was a good idea. But I would wash up and keep those old shocks and hang em on the shop wall. I have a bit of a collection of old parts, oil cans (cardboard type) etc. And I'll live long enough to see these trucks being restored to "factory condition" which means somebody will need those original shocks. Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
Thanks for all the responses, and a HUGE thank you to TKCR for working with me on spec'ing out a seat. However, I've realized that I'm not quite sure exactly what it is i want in a seat yet. Also a more pressing issue came up with Sweet Pea... fuel problems.. I need to focus my attention on redoing the fuel lines, senders and possibly tank switch. I'll knock around the seat idea for a while... and see what sticks.
However I did come across this on the Squarebody Syndicate FB parts group. Looks original, and re-inspired me to do the plaid... Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
Anyway... On to less fun but more important tasks... Fuel issues.
I have always had trouble filling up my tanks. Here in CA the fuel nozzles have these very annoying "Vapor collar" thingys that completely block off the filler neck to prevent fuel vapor from escaping. In doing so, they prohibit the tank vent from operating properly, which leads to fuel puking out of the filler neck and onto the ground. That's a pain in the ass all in itself, but recently I noticed the filler tube hose on my aux tank was leaking profusely as well. That led me to crawl under there and inspect the system. Turns out all the rubber fuel lines are in pretty shoddy shape. I dropped the aux side tank yesterday and am in the process of cleaning it up, replacing the lines, and deciding whether or not i need to replace the sender. If anyone can help chime in on this question, please do. After pulling the tank, I found this setup at the top: Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr What exactly am I looking at here? And is it safe/legit/factory? I'm assuming that one is a fuel output line, and the other a breather, but what sort of breather contraption is that? and is it safe? Also, if i plan on swapping the sender, is it wise to recreate this exact setup? Please let me know if you have any experience in the fuel systems in these trucks... Thanks!

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
That does look nice! Flip it over, so I can see the tracks, and I can narrow down the exact year. The only drawback I see with the seat it’s a non-tilting, but that’s really not a big deal.
Been through those fuel issues myself, just last spring. Have a buddy that has a shop. He came to get the truck with a Flat Bed. I felt so much better knowing he had my Big Red. All the rubber hoses got replaced. We grew up together, next door neighbors. Now he lives locally with his shop. He also has quite a collection of Classic Cars.

Anyways... yeah I am overdue for fuel system refresh. The crossover line from the main tank to the switching unit was literally ready to turn to dust... I bought a 25ft roll of 3/8" line and im going to go swap out every piece under there!

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
If the gages were working I probably
wouldn't replace the senders. First thing I would do is, Pull that plastic guard off the front of the tank. I have seen tanks that had so much crude built up in behind that guard. When I removed the crude the tank had a hole rusted in it. So I would suggest cleaning under that guard to see if you will need a new tank. It's probably ok (But) it just takes a minute to check.

locking ring? You could remove that ring a clean everything up Then put it back and see if it works. That's the vent they used back then. I had the same type on some of my trucks. Make sure it is clear (so it can vent). .

There are many posts on sending uniuts. If memory serves, I believe 3 o'clock indicates an open circuit, meaning broken wire or junk sender.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20
Thanks for the tip. Yeah I’m suspect of the wiring, it looks pretty crusty, so I’m planning on chasing the wires out and looking for a break. The sender itself doesn’t look bad, I assume it was replaced at some point. The nylon sock was still very intact.
