Also dura block 16 inch with a roll of 320 sticky paper. Gets those long lines nice and flat...the astronaut has a couple builds...goldie locks and some other restorations that have some great painting and restoration skills. Making great progress....Happy 4th of July.

Well I didn’t know Fedex would deliver parts on Sunday but, I wasn’t going to complain when they showed up with my engine mounts! Got the engine in Sunday and pretty much have the wiring completed other than lights.

Got the grill pulled off and the headlights out. Start body work on the front end then get it bolted up. Getting the engine in was a big milestone!

Looks great J! That's a big step. Did you like the POL motor mounts?

I'll reiterate what notsolo said...do everything you can in the engine bay you can before you start bolting fenders and the front end back on. Much easier to reach everything now with nothing in the way.

POL mounts were perfect! I did have to drill the bottom holes but I figured as much since it’s all out of a 78 Chevy. But with the front end off, made it way easy. Getting excited to listen to it run!

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build

Welcome back J...I was wondering what happened to you! After you lay the tape down are you going back and pressing it down with a bondo squeegee or a credit card or your fingernail or anything? I always make sure I press down firmly before I paint. What 3M tape are you using? I think I use the green 3m tape for lines like that.

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build

I use 3m fine line tape 3/8" then mask with blue tape and paper....Front end looks good....maybe some gold lettering, for Idaho.

Thanks guys. Yes I am using the green tape, I believe they call it fine line tape. I have been pushing it down but haven’t used a tool. I guess thinking back I was just pushing it down with my hands. I will try using a credit card. Thanks for the advice guys!
As far as the busy goes, I have been building a retaining wall around my so called daylight basement. Here is a pic of the hole I had to dig! Just got the footing poured yesterday. Next is the wall.
Thanks again guys, love the support and advice.

I don’t know about the gold! I was trying to figure out what I was going to do for the lettering

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build

On your rad support where it's painted white can I suggest you put some flat or satin black just behind the grill like they do from the factory? I find it doesn't look good when you see color behind the grill. Keep up the good work!

You are right, it was flat black before I painted it. I will definitely take your advice and paint some flat black on it. Thanks man

J...Just read your build thread and first off hope the Covid has passed and all is well.
Your truck is looking awesome, what makes it even more special is that is a family truck which is really cool. Im looking forward to watching the rest of your build.

John,

Thanks man! I am hoping to make some progress here soon. I have a LMC package that should be here tomorrow. Doing this on a tight budget as most of us here are doing. I have really enjoyed all the support and advice from this forum. Thanks for following along. I can look for hours at everyone’s builds on here.

Go to your Private Messages...click on the box of the messages you want to delete so there is a check mark in the box, then go to the bottom of the page and choose "delete" and press "go".

Well tonight I got the front end bolted back on, brake master bolted and bench bled and a bunch of under hood parts painted. Still need to put some flat black behind the grill.

Looking good! I am almost to that point. I got a "new" radiator support from John. I blasted it this weekend and painted it...now I need to install it if the rain will stop!

Thank you! My aunt who I have a great relationship with doesn't know I am fixing this truck up. Grandpa being her dad, I can't wait to surprise her with it the next time she comes to town. I hope to have it finished before then. I know I will get a teardrop or two! I know it will mean a lot to her.

I actually led grandpa's funeral procession to the cemetery with this truck. I know that might sound pretty redneck, but it meant a lot to the close family.

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build

Okay, I have seen some different posts on here about front fenders.... I ordered some because mine are shot. All I can say is wow! If a product sucks this bad you should do something to fix the issue! I am at a loss. Triplus absolutely sucks! They aren’t even the right length!

Anyone have any suggestions?

May not help but I have always found that fixing originals is way better. We know they fit for one, plus the metal is thicker..
I bought a set of aftermarket ones..ONCE. it cost me more trying to get them to line up and fit

Yeah, I am going to attempt fixing my original panels but I am super nervous. I hope and pray I don’t mess it up!

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build

Yes I always recommend repairing your original fenders if at all possible. Even those that a lot of people say are shot are still repairable. You will spend that much time or more, reworking the repro fenders. The repro front fenders have always been crappy. They will never correct the poor quality issues because everyone keeps buying them.
