Torque converter bolts
This is the second time my torque converter bolts have come loose.
First time I installed then dry like normal. Second time I went with red loc-tite, and lock washers. As I had a box from a project I built left over from work. I chocked the first time up to I was in a rush to get the engine in the Camaro, and never double checked. The second time I have been scratching my head as to why they loosened. Besides using the Mig welder. Could loc-tite go bad? The bottle is a few years old. The engine is very smooth, and even my 80 year old mom is fine driving with me in it. She says it is too loud as her only complaint. |

Re: Torque converter bolts
Are you sure you're not using a 3/8-16 bolt in a 10mm x1.5 hole?

Re: Torque converter bolts
They came with the torque converter.
Plus the bolts do not wobble. |

Re: Torque converter bolts
No reason they should back out unless they are too long and bottoming on the convertor itself before tightening the conv to the flex. The early convertor bolts had a nut and bolt.

Re: Torque converter bolts
Second on the check length of the bolts...
Then add an internal star type lock washer under the head of the bolt and a new bottle of loctite red.... Torque down then DO NOT retorque....doing so often breaks the loctite bond....

Re: Torque converter bolts
I will source the star washers on my next weekday off, and give those a try.
