Question Fan Shroud

I put my new 3 row radiator in today and went to install my fan shroud and it wouldn't fit. The radiator is the correct size and all. I put my engine in the foward V-8 holes in the frame and correct mounts for a small block and all. The only thing not factory is I switched to long style water pump, anyway who has this set up and what shroud fits. I have about 4 in + between fan and radiator.

What do you mean it doesn't fit? If you are going to use a long water pump you would better off to leave the motor in the six position. The setup you have will not work completey with stock parts you will have to make it work.

Two things..... Are you trying to use the 6 cylender fan shroud? You also should go to the short water pump, though I am not sure that is necessary. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Thumbs up

Mudder yes check the one you have please. The one I have is about 8 in deep and the one in my 71 is like 5 or so. I need the thinner one. I had the shroud in the truck before when the engine was in the six position. But it came out of a 69 with a long water pump and v8 mounts. Heck I don't know anymore. Thanks for your input guys.

What ya got ta have for it? Is it a decent piece quality wise? Let me measure my truck tomorrow or here in a while and will see if 5 inches is enough or too much! That sounded kinky but you know what I mean! Thanks a bunch.

Mudder I just went out and measured. I have 3 inches from radiator to front of fan and 5 inches to 2/3 thickness of fan, leaving about 1/3 of the rear of the fan behind the shroud. I think this would work. I also checked my 71 driver and it has the 5 inch shroud also, but with the short water pump setup. and the fan is almost totally behind the shroud. Let me know what you want for it. Thanks again.

FYI: also measure the diameter of the fan you are going to use.
Most newer style motors use a fan/fan clutch assm. The diameter
of newer fans wont fit into the older SBC fan shroud. If I remember correctly, the SBC fan shrould opening is 19" and the
BB shroud opening is 21"
Might want to consider using a BB fan shroud, it has a larger
opening, and isnt too thick. If you run across the 305-V6 GMC
fan shroud, it is even thinner and has the larger opening like the
BB fan shroud.
Good luck.
