So there I was staring the devil in the eye. The 12 circuit ezwiring harness arrived and I opened it up to see it was well organized and plenty of length to wire the truck.



I followed the instructions and sat down looking for a place to mount the fuse box. I decided to use the firewall in the cab beside the opening for the old fuse block so the block of plate I made can be used to run the wire through with the provided grommet and keep it organized and have plenty of slack. The fuse box had 2 cheapy tabs on the back and I wasn't going to start drilling and hoping considering they are staggered, so i snapped them off and drill two holes in the base of the block. this ended up working really well and save me some foot room.



So I started to run and separate the wires from the front light section from the engine and charging system. Here you can see the plate I made to act as a block off plate and wire route. I spent maybe 2 hours just planning and routing and zip tying and taping to keep organized.









So after I decided the wires were routed the way I want I started looming the larger sections of wire together. I opted to use a braided style loom keeping the wires tight and clean looking, aswell if I so wish i can run snap loom on top for added protection.







One thing I noticed is that all that cleanliness has gone out the window for now my interior looks like a dump and it was look so nice...



So I did the same with the interior wiring that will be running to the rear I havent totally decided where and how I am going to run the rear lighting I was thinking either through the cab corner and run it inside the rocker but not sure if this will prevent me getting a safety, or I will run it out and down the fire wall towards the rear.

I believe factory tail light wiring came through firewall right behind the intake manifold (a little to the drivers side of center) Ran down and along the drivers side frame rail. Should be a hole through firewall near carb linkage assembly. (more to the center)

Ok I'll take a look maybe I'll take the safe route and wire it that way. And I figure I would have two sheets side by side and a hinged rear section where maybe I can put a tool box and have easy access to my gas tank.

So I've been thinking about a few things that have been giving me some trouble over the course of the build not sure if it's being over thunk or I'm just not looking hard enough. The first one is.. How the hell is the heat a adjuster hooked up if it's inside the heater box assembly can someone show me pictures of this? Or even a truck or description how to do this? Only piece not working right for the heater.

Now my wiring questions I sent to ezwiring they have been really quick with getting back to me sofar. But my question is are the side markets on these trucks just lights or are they a signal aswell? And if that's the case can I just run power from my front parking lights?

side marker bulbs are single filament. So either they come on with park lights... or you wire them to only flash. Park/signal bulbs (ie: 1157) have 2 filaments.

Heat adjuster cable is clamped on top of box.. runs into box through a grommet.. and loop on end of cable fits on a pin on the door inside the heater box I believe.

How would you know that's connected? By looking in the hole where the grommet pulls off?

so ive got a few questions about things that are slowing me down right now and if you guys could point me in the right direction that would be awesome

1. with the ez wiring kit it doesnt come with a dome light wire so i have to wire it in from scratch. what does the dome wiring run to?

2. how are the neutral safety switches wired up on these i keep reading it but it just doesnt seem to click.

3. the print for the front signals in the grille say they are marker/signal from the ez wiring harness, but according to the original diagram they are separate circuits now to get the side markers going would i just splice off the wires labeled marker?

4. heres an easy one im doing my bed in plywood and i just need tp know what the dimensions of the lwb i need to know it order to cut the wood for my bed.

back again with another update of how the truck is coming along. Still struggling with the wiring but have the front engine compartment finished up finally, managed to finish up a few things while I was working in that area of the truck. washer res, working on setting my timing soon, wondering what the initial timing for a 283 should be set at? I've read some people say 0* some say 4*.



I am doing some research right now on how to route my exhaust and muffler placement I heard closer to engine mean quieter and further back means louder. I've decided on a couple thrush glasspacks.

Started working on the Cab section of the truck aswell later that day I managed to get a fair amount of stuff done. All the heating duct is in, wiper arms and blades are sitting loose until I can test them and make sure they are in the correct position, found a cowel gasket in the junk yard that was in decent enough shape I deemed it usable, found some cool little rear view mirror i decide would really fit the look and feel of the truck and the direct I want to go with it and finally the door panels are finished and painted not sure im worried about arm rests..









I am still struggling with a bit of wiring and need to ask for some help those of you who do I really do appreciate it.

still trying to understand the dome light since the 12 fuse harness doesnt come with the circuit provided or any wires labeled so.

the same with reverse lights there are no wires or circuits or even diagrams for the kit with this.

ammeter i think everyone just ignores it would be nice if it was usable.

still working on the ignition and the cluster plug.

waiting for our next sunny day to paint the bed cross members so i can start fitting up the bed. we have a swap meet on may 10th here and i plan on going to that to try and find a rear bumper tires and some attractive rims that dont look too out of place.

Quick update, wiring is getting done rear cross Sills are painted. Just need to figure out what to do about the blazer tank sitting so high. Any lower I won't be able to access the neck it would be inside the frame. Going to pick up a few things this Friday. I'm thinking a battery with grounding cables/straps so I can test Circuits and finish up the front end of the truck. No point in starting the bed yet too cold to do body work and paint. So I'll just keep plugging away at the wiring doing other things here and there.

4-6 degrees initial will get you running. If you're new to engines especially a rebuilt one not pre run I suggest you have somebody who knows what they're doing around when you fire it up. Running into issue during break in can mean the difference between a good lasting engine or a disaster if proper can break in isn't achieved at first start up.

Oh that is for sure I'll have one of my buddies with me who has built a few cars. And a fire extinguisher... Hope I don't need it.

So I know I haven't really posted in awhile, and I have good news and bad new about the truck. Good news is I took it for a drive! Love it! bad news is I'm still fighting with wiring. And have been too busy since we just bought our first house. Bright side of that is there's a big workshop so I atleast have room to work and store my tools. So I'm starting to go over all the small issues cleaning grounds checking connectors. 2nd and 3rd position on the headlight switch I loose my signals and first position I have to find a sweet spot to get it to work. Also dash lights still don't work yet the auxiliary aftermarket gauges work.

Thanks it's been a long time coming it's hard housing is pretty expensive nowadays but we got a big yard front drive and a double garage even though it's more of a welding shop then a place to park haha
