That is solid advice from briank... this board is FULL of amazing trucks that are still in their natural state as far as exterior and finish go. (you're getting a lot of other good advice too).

Good luck.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

Whats crazy about it is, no surface rust..Thanks Brian and '72..a good waxing etc will make it good..Heck what makes me scratch my head is the Rain drip thing on the roof isn't rust at all..Mind=blown

For the bottom Molding how in the world can I put it back on..once I clean it up I'd like to put it back on and have it on..It'll be in a garage out of the wet

Its a Automatic THANK GOD..I mean I can drive Stick no problem but it does wonders for me..

I wish I had a Automatic Lifter, it would help greatly..Although I know a really good mechanic that helped my pawpaw out over the years

Can someone explain what the Fuse box in the engine bay on the Drivers side all go too, some on this truck are unplug and curious to see what they go to...Assuming one is radio?

I am going to get new tires and rims for it as well as the ones on it are great but are dry rotted (they were new) and keep the rims and sandblast them and then paint them the Original Eggshell White

Thanks for the advice, I am listening carefully to each and everyone of you

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

A block of 2x4 on a floor jack can be used in a pinch. Having a buddy to help is a plus. balancing the tranny on a floor jack is tricky business but it is entirely doable.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

Did you do a bill of sale, along with the deposit, as I suggested?

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. You've changed your sig line, and are still talking about repairs you're going to do. I know you're excited, but if you don't have a bill of sale, and everything hinges on this dude buying your Cougar, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment. Be a bit more of a realist, and have a plan B. I'd suggest you entertain and pursue other offers on the Cougar, as the seller of this truck are. Their ad is still up, and if you don't come through quickly, you can't blame them if they sell it to someone else.

Keep your chin up, but play the game intelligently

Thanks Mister-B
No I didn't really think of it
The guy just told me he has a truck for the Cougar...
I'm going to settle down and think reality.

No, I'm saying you should do a bill of sale for the truck, which reflects the deposit, total sale price, and gives you a specified date to pay additional deposits to hold the truck, or pay in full.

I've never been able to pin down the GB lock Ellen. I think they were dealer installed but the dealer had the resources to key it like the other locks if the buyer/owner wanted it done.

I've read through the whole thread and followed along silently except to help a few posts ago... but Schrum, when you say stuff like this you're doing it to yourself.

Mister-B is giving you some good advice, not technically legal advise but it is so important how to buy something and have legal possession. it was 8 days ago when the topic of deposit and bill of sale was brought up. a deposit could be as little as a dollar, but it is significant. If it is because you don't know how to write a bill of sale it is something that is easy to learn. A bill of sale needs to state the date, the buyer, the seller, a description of the vehicle including the VIN number to describe what you are buying and any clauses that you both mutually negotiate.

In this case you would write on a piece of paper:

I SCHRUMGMC is going to purchase a sweet ride that is my dream from (leave a blank spot for the seller to sign their name). The price for this 1970 GMC Pickup is $1,000. The buyer is putting $100 as a down payment with the balance of $900 due on Saturday the 10th.

Sign it and have them sign it.

You now have a legal contract and they cannot sell the truck to anyone else as long as you show up on Saturday with the rest of the money.

and on the cowl, just put it back by doing what you did to take it off in reverse.

you'll have to remove the windshield wipers too. Use a pic to release the metal spring that is holding the arm onto the shaft.

Yes, it would be included in the price

Truck cost $1000.
Deposit left - $ 100.

You owe $900.

While this is technically correct, there is not enough value to enforce this. If seller gets a better offer, they may sell to someone else and refund the deposit (or worse sell to someone else and keep the deposit). I myself would never take a deposit on a vehicle or hold a vehicle. First one with all the money rides-clean and neat. My advice is do what you can to come up with all of the money and complete the transaction as soon as possible.

I am pulling for you Schrum.

Just an observation for the old guys and gals on here from an old guy with 3 teenagers myself, their gerneration seems to share every thought they have through some type of electronic media as they think them...seems to have become a part of their thought process.

We are blessed to be included in this young mans thought process.
